FROM THE DIRECTORS CAMP IS HEATIN' UP! As we move on from a summer weather heat wave, Camp is also getting really hot! Camp Hilltop has completed half of its 4 family visitations, Camp Shalom has had 1 of 3 latestays, Camp Aaron had its first overnight, Chaverim is on the move and preparing for their big away trip, and Gesher CIT's are doing great! There are many great weeks ahead! The first Camp show is next week (Camp Aaron's show - see below), Carnival Day is almost upon us, another visitation takes place, the Israeli Scouts and Sheldon Lowe come to visit week 5, and things are really getting going! It's going to be great!
Mid-season evaluations will be sent out next week. Please take a moment to complete and let us know how we are doing! We hope you will share with us that your camper loves Camp, but we also want to know ways that you think we can get even better!
We recognize that some of our campers are signed up to be done Camp at the end of Week 4. We welcome families to extend their stays with us by adding weeks. Please contact Pam Parker, Camp Registrar at pparker@jfedsnj.org, or at the Camp office, 609 654-5192, to arrange this.
The Camp email phonebooks are being created for each division, so that campers can contact each other to get together. Please email Deena at dsherman@jfedsnj.org if you do not want your information included.
Keep checking us out on Facebook and Twitter - response has been awesome! Have a great weekend - Shabbat Shalom!

JCC Camp From the Beginning
G reat feedback from a former camper, counselor, and now a Camp "Bubby":
Hi Aaron,
What a thrill it was for me to see how far we've come and what a beautiful campsite Medford is. I started at Camp Hilltop in 1947. We met at Camden High School and went by bus to swim at Mountwell Pool in Haddonfield. From there, we used places like Lake Grenloch, Twin Lakes, and Sally Starr's Ranch. I was in the first group of kids to take advantage of Tween Travel Camp. I became a CIT, a CA, a Jr. counselor, and finally a counselor. I was in the first group of counselors to explore the campsite at Medford, after George Aaron died and left the acreage to the JCC. When we arrived, there was the lake with a dock, a bathhouse, a nature shack, and 2 pavilions, one for Music and one for A&C. What fabulous memories I have! My 2 children have experienced JCC camp at Medford and now my grandchildren attend as well. We all love it! May you continue to be successful and thrill countless generations of kids. Linda Rosengard, mother of Alyssa and Julie Rosengard, and Bubby to Sarah and Ethan Wellborn
Note from the Director: While I like to suggest that Camp Aaron was named for me, as you can see from above, it was named for George Aaron, the person who donated the land that we enjoy today! Thank you to Linda for writing to me!

Hilltop HOT, HOT,HOT Happenings
A little heat didn't stop our Hilltoppers from having a great week.
- On Monday and Tuesday sports became a water activity, and water games and Splash Park were also popular ways to beat the heat.
- Tuesday and Friday we welcomed Shores
h and Kefli families for visitation. It was fun to watch our parents joining in activities with campers, especially when they were singing and dancing with Danit and Marcy, our Music specialists. Next Wednesday, July 20th, we are looking forward to family visitation day for the Geza and Elon campers. - Another highlight of our week was a performance by Yosi. Our little campers were up and moving! Yosi (www.YosiMusic.com) is an award winning Jewish children's performer.
- Theater has been practicing for the Camp Hilltop show, "You've Got a Friend In Me" which will be on Thursday, August 11th at the JCC in Cherry Hill.
- Usable Arts kept up with the weekly theme "friendship around the world" as they created puppets of different animals from around the world.
- In Kosher Cooking campers mixed up a cake from scratch and then the bunk made it into a friendship quilt. Every camper had their own square to decorate as they discussed the qualities of friendship and doing things together.
- Little Scientists made bracelets that changes colors when exposed to UV rays. They used different number SPF sunscreens to experiment how higher numbers protect better against the sun's harmful rays.
- Gan Yeladim decorated interlocking puzzle people and also created flags of countries where Jewish people live. The campers discussed how Jewish people live all over the world.
- Nature was on the move, with Hilltoppers followed a path in the woods for a scavenger hunt. They discussed the many different kinds of leaves that you can find in nature just like different kinds of friendships at camp.
- More critters? This time they were created by the campers at Arts and Crafts. These colorful critters were made with sand art and the campers had a blast making up silly names for them.
- Hilltop sports "skill of the week": Hockey - shooting, T-ball - catching, Kickball - catching, Soccer -- dribbling, Basketball - running. Our little campers are becoming All-stars!
- This Shabbat, Ronit Boyd from Jewish Federation of South Jersey was our special guest, and she read to the campers and explained PJ Library, which each month sends out free Jewish kids' books to children. See article below for details.
We can't wait until Carnival day on Thursday!
Shabbat Shalom!

Sensational Shalom
Happy in the Heat
As week three comes to a close, enthusiasm and excitement flourishes! Sparkling, smiling, faces are everywhere and the laughing and singing of joyous campers can be heard throughout camp.
- The week began with plenty of spirit from our visiting Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders. The energetic women shared their talents and skills with our campers and taught them some great cheers and dance moves.
- In Usable Arts our campers made mailboxes to collect letters from friends.
- At Dance, our campers listened to music and learned dances from different regions around the world.
- What was that awesome smell in Camp Shalom this week? Hot apple crisp in Kosher Cooking!
- Masada and Dimona had their late stay and enjoyed the camp all to themselves while dining on pizza and ice cream. They then popped over to the ISC in Cherry Hill for skating, soccer, and fun zone.
Next week, we are looking forward to having an incredible carnival day! Have a wonderful weekend! Shabbat Shalom!

Action Packed Aaron
Swingin' into Summer!
Camp Aaron campers are buzzing with excitement as week 3 took off to a steamy start. Campers had fun on the sports fields while adding lots of sprinkler runs and wet sponge tosses into the activity. On Wednesday, Aaron campers were treated to a visit from the Challenger British Soccer league that ran a clinic on the Aaron fields. Campers walked away with an extra kick in their step after their valuable instruction.
Our 1st Day of Caring and Sharing event happened on Wednesday with our campers visiting, cooking and serving lunch to the residents of the Ronald McDonald house. The campers came back excited about taking part in this wonderful Tzedakah project.
Gilad campers enjoyed their first Camp overnight on Thursday. Campers was treated to an extra free swim in the Shalom Pool followed by a BBQ dinner in the Aaron complex. Our evening activity featured Simon Sez with Steve Max and lots of bunk games followed by a campfire with s'mores. A great night was had by all campers and staff.
Everyone is invited to attend our 1st Camp Aaron theater performance on Tuesday, July 19th at 7pm. Our theater majors will be taking the stage with "Fiddler on the Roof Jr." and our Performing Dancers will be twirling the evening's performance in and dancing it out to the end. Please come to the JCC in Cherry Hill that night and cheer on our young stars.
We can't wait to see what excitement week 4 brings!
