Chasco Constructors Awarded Contract for Hutto Family YMCA

At the September 6th City Council Meeting, Council approved a contract with Chasco Constructors LTD for Construction Manager-At-Risk services to build the Hutto Family YMCA. The facility is expected to break ground this fall with hopes of a summer 2013 opening.

The $5 million project was part of Proposition 4 that the voters approved in the 2009 Bond Election. The bond selection committee included the project on the ballot after the YMCA offered a partnership of operating and maintaining a city-owned facility.

Chasco Constructors was selected from 10 firms that responded to the City's Request for Proposals (RFP) earlier this year. A review team made up of representatives from the YMCA, KA Hickman Architects, and the City of Hutto evaluated each of the proposals before ultimately recommending Chasco Constructors LTD.

Hutto Competing for $100,000 Grant in Nationwide Challenge

that Launches Local Recycling Rewards Program

Hutto joins more than 300 communities across the U.S. and the U.K. that have implemented Recyclebank to help increase recycling rates through incentives and reward residents with deals on everyday household and grocery items. In addition to significant environmental benefits, increased recycling also has a positive impact on municipal finances through disposal cost savings and revenues from the sale of recyclables.

To participate, Hutto residents need to sign up for a free Recyclebank account and report their recycling activity. Residents can visit www.recyclebank.com/greenchoices and follow the prompts to get started. Once a Recyclebank member, residents can report their recycling efforts each week to earn points by simply reporting their recycling efforts on the Recyclebank website. Residents can also use the Recyclebank smartphone app for their iPhone and Android devices to report their recycling, check their Recyclebank Points balance and discover eligible reward offers. In order for a resident's recycling activity to count towards the Challenge, residents must report their recycling efforts at least once a month. A leader board at www.recyclebank.com/greenchoices will track progress each month, and the winning community will be announced in January 2013.

As the Hutto Economic Development Corporation completes its 2012 fiscal year, it is gratifying to see many long term projects progress to reality. Construction is underway on the East Williamson County Higher Education Center-Hutto and major progress on the SH-130 infrastructure projects Both will have a long term, positive impact on the economic development of Hutto. Neither of these projects would be possible without collaboration and partnerships with other entities such as the City of Hutto, Hutto ISD, Temple College, and TSTC Waco. For us to continue to be successful as a community, we must continue to work together and leverage our finite resources in an effective manner. We are seeing tangible results from working together. There are certainly other opportunities we can capture for Hutto if we continue with working collaboratively.

Thank you for your interest in the Hutto Economic Development Corporation. I look forward to seeing you at one of the monthly Power Breakfasts. Also, I encourage you to attend the Hutto EDC Year in Review Banquet on October 25 at the Golf Club at Star Ranch. Due to the generous support of sponsors, there is no admission to the event. This years speaker, Brendan Hansen, is a frequent visitor to Hutto. He is a great athlete and better person. Please RSVP if you would like to attend this event.

Please feel free to contact me if I may ever be of assistance.

Warmest regards,

Scott Martinez, CEcD
