Mark your calendar for a Hutto higher education community update
The first Hamburgers and Higher Education Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, May 8th from 11:30am to 1pm at the Golf Club at Star Ranch. This luncheon will highlight the development progress of the East Williamson County Higher Education Center-Hutto (EWCHEC-Hutto). Temple College President Dr. Glenda Barron, Texas State Technical College Waco President Dr. Elton Stuckly as well as other representatives from EWCHEC-Hutto will be presenting information on the first phase of the new Hutto campus.
About the Hamburgers and Higher Education Luncheon
Hamburgers and Higher Education Luncheon will be held quarterly to keep the public informed on topical matters related to EWCHEC-Hutto. It is open to the public, and its mission is to cultivate open communication between the Hutto community and EWCHEC-Hutto. Lunch is $10 (cash or check). If you are able to join us, please RSVP to Erin Klingemann at eklingemann@huttoedc.com or by telephone at 512-759-2806 no later than close of business Thursday, May 3rd to ensure a seat.

The Hutto community will hear from Alvin Lankford, Chief Appraiser at the Williamson Central Appraisal District, for the third consecutive year at the May 10, 2012 Hutto Economic Development Corporation Power Breakfast. Lankford will speak about property value and trends in both the Williamson County and Hutto area, as well as compare regional data.
Like all Hutto Economic Development Corporation Power Breakfasts, this event is free of charge to attend, begins at 7:30am on the second Thursday of every month, is held at the Hutto Holiday Inn Express, and requires no RSVP. We hope to see you there.

| Hutto EDC is Recognized with TEDC Economic Excellence Award
For the fourth consecutive year Texas EDC recognizes Hutto EDC
For the fourth consecutive year, the Texas Economic Development Council recognized the Hutto Economic Development Corporation for achieving Economic Excellence. This award was presented at the Spring 2012 Texas Economic Development Council Conference held in Rockwall, Texas; the 2011 awards were presented to twenty-two organizations from across the state.
About the Economic Excellence Award
In an effort to continue strengthening the knowledge and skills of economic development professionals and volunteers throughout the state, the Texas Economic Development Council has instituted its Economic Excellence Recognition Program. This program has the following objectives:
* Provide recognition to ED agencies that meet a desired threshold of
professionalism.
* Encourage professional staff membership and involvement in TEDC
* Encourage agency Board member attendance at TEDC training opportunities.
* Continue to underscore TEDC as the pre-eminent organization advocating professional economic development in Texas.

| Executive Director teaches at Texas Basic Economic Development Course
Martinez teaches Strategic Planning in Rockwall
Hutto Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Scott Martinez, CEcD was invited to instruct the strategic planning module of the Texas Basic Economic Development Course in Rockwall, Texas. The course is offered through the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) of Texas A&M University.
There were 60 participants from throughout Texas in the course including local elected officials, government agency staff members, planners, utility and transportation personnel, business leaders, community leaders and volunteers, and economic development staff members.

| David Mitchell, who has served as Assistant City Manager since 2009, will be the next City Manager of Hutto. Following executive session at the April 19, 2012 City Council Meeting, Council unanimously approved the negotiated contract.
The Council appointed Mitchell Interim City Manager in January following former City Manger Edward Broussard's departure at the end of 2011 to take the top position at Missouri City, Texas.
As City Manager, Mr. Mitchell will serve as the top appointed executive in the City, responsible for carrying out the polices and programs as determined by the City Council. He will ensure the development and execution of the municipality's strategic plan and budget as well as the governmental operations and functions to effectively serve the needs of the Hutto residents and other stakeholders, while complying with applicable laws and regulations. Hutto's City Manager is responsible for administering an annual budget of $22 million and supervising a staff of 87 city employees.
Mitchell, age 40, holds an undergraduate degree from Auburn University and a Master's in Public Administration from UT Arlington. Prior to coming to Hutto, David served the City of Harker Heights in a number of capacities, including Director of Planning and Development and Assistant to the City Manager. He joined the Hutto team and began his service to the Hutto community in September 2009.
Mitchell, an active father of three sons, coaches little league, serves on the Board of the Williamson County United Way and is a member of Resonate Church and the Hutto Lions Club. His wife Angie, also a very active mother, currently serves on the Board of Hutto Education Foundation.

Micah Grau Selected to Serve as New Assistant City Manager
| City Manager, David Mitchell, has announced his selection of the new Assistant City Manager, Micah Grau. Following Edward Broussard's departure this past December, Mr. Mitchell, who had served as the Assistant City Manager since September, 2009, was appointed City Manager at the April 19 council meeting, following a short interim period. "Micah has shown outstanding ability in his care and oversight of the City's Finance Department. His detailed understanding of the City's budget will be a big asset in the City Manager's Office. Micah has been a tremendous help as acting Assistant City Manager during my interim period. His work during the interim time frame just reaffirmed my decision to move him to the ACM position. I have full confidence in Micah's abilities to serve the City as the second in command," stated Mitchell. Grau will assist the City Manager in facilitating the effective and efficient provision of services to the Hutto community while overseeing the management of the Finance and Public Works Departments as well as the IT, GIS and the City Secretary Divisions. While meeting the needs of the entire organization he will also manage high-level projects that are responsive to the organizational goals and strategies as directed by the City Manager. Grau has served at the City of Hutto since 2006 in a number of capacities, including Budget Analyst, Finance Manager and Finance Director. Grau, a graduate of Texas A&M University, completed his Masters in Public Administration from Texas State University. A resident of Hutto, Micah and his wife Mallory, and son Eli are soon expecting a new arrival in May.

City of Hutto Outside Agency Funding Applications Now Available
| The City of Hutto is accepting applications for Outside Agency Funding for the 2012-13 Fiscal Year. Applications, instructions, and additional information can be downloaded from the City's website www.HuttoTX.gov.
In accordance with the Fiscal and Budgetary Policy adopted by the City Council, the City provides approximately 1% of estimated general fund revenues to other non-profit agencies that provide core services for the citizens of Hutto. The City Council sets the annual contribution amount as part of the annual budget process. Applications must be received no later than May 25, 2012 at 5:00pm.
All applicants must be available for presentations of their funding requests before the Outside Agency Funding Committee the evening of June 14. If you have any questions, you may contact Micah Grau, Assistant City Manager.
