| Hutto EDC Participates in Education Progress Report for Second Year in a Row
Report on Hutto schools given by the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce
To aid in this report, Erin Klingemann of the Hutto Economic Development Corporation coordinates a task force comprised of Hutto business representatives, to identify local education goals and relay those goals to leaders throughout the community. "This report is not designed to compare Hutto ISD to other school districts throughout the region; it is designed to be used as a benchmarking and communication tool for the Hutto business community to understand how the local schools are doing compared to community expectations," stated Klingemann.
The Hutto Task Force is comprised of April Patterson, Director of the Gideon Math & Learning Center, Anne Cano, Hutto City Council Place 1, Erin Klingemann, Operations Manager of the Hutto Economic Development Corporation and Scott Martinez, Executive Director of the Hutto Economic Development Corporation. The Hutto ISD Advisory Committee consists of Dr. Douglas Killian, Superintendent, Steve Snell, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, and Emily Grobe, Public Information Officer.
The Hutto Independent School District Education Progress Report is partially funded through the Hutto Economic Development Corporation's investment in the Opportunity Austin initiative.
About the Progress Report Initiative
The Austin Chamber of Commerce leads regional efforts to track K-12 school district performance and increase the number of students ready for and enrolled in higher education. The reports serve as tools for communities to track their school districts' performance trends and communicate school districts' goals and the strategies they are using to reach those objectives. In this way, they facilitate conversations between school district and business leaders about resource allocations and potential tax-rate elections. The intent of this report is to compare school district performance to community expectations, not to other area, Texas or U.S. school districts. Top of Page

City of Hutto - Press Release
City of Hutto Implementing Safe Routes to School Plan
| The City of Hutto and Hutto ISD are in the process of developing a plan to provide active transportation for students in grades Pre-K thru 8th. This meeting will provide an opportunity for the public to offer input on what they see as barriers to children, including those with disabilities, utilizing active transportation (walking/biking) to and from school.
The Safe Routes to School program is a federally funded program that enables and encourages children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school. Programs make walking and biking to school safe and more appealing. Communities are able to use the funds to address hazards and slow traffic on roads that serve schools, as well as build pathways, bike lanes, and sidewalks within a two-mile radius of their schools. SRTS combines health, fitness, traffic relief, environmental awareness, and safety all in one program. For questions on the Safe Route to School Program, contact the City of Hutto at 512.759.4015.

Council Approves Development of Library Master Plan
| In 2011, the City of Hutto and the Friends of the Hutto Public Library organization agreed to collaborate on the development of a Library Master Plan for the Hutto Public Library. This plan would outline the areas of service delivery that need to be expanded upon based on the City's current collection, programs and services offered at the library.
The City then selected Antenora Architects and 720 Design as the consultant team to facilitate the planning process and develop the plan. The process began in November and has continued with several meetings, input sessions, site visits and survey distribution. The planning team is comprised of city staff, Library Advisory Board Chairperson Davey Robinson and Teri Villanueva, President of the Friends of the Hutto Public Library.
Along with setting the near and long range planning goals, the team has worked on site plans and layouts for the existing building as it currently stands as well as expansion possibilities on the same site.
In addition to a survey to gather input from citizens, a public workshop was held earlier this year to prioritize desired amenities and space needs of the Hutto Library. The collected information was carefully analyzed to meet Library needs for the next 5, 10 and 20 years of the City.
The Hutto City Council approved adoption of the Library Master Plan at their meeting on March 8th.
