Greetings!

I am excited about this months' topic. We all want to be understood. However, many people spend a good part of their time frustrated by their inability to articulate how they feel or ask for what they need. This can lead to an on going state of unfillment and misunderstandings.

 Communicating Clearly
Getting what you want with win win results.

Communicating clearly takes practice and patience. Many people get tongue tied or frustrated when they need to discuss a sensitive subject with someone. Instead of stating what they need they either raise their voice, make aggressive comments or they shut down and walk away. I would like to offer you a few helpful tips that, if practiced, will move your communication skills to a whole new level of play. You'll thank me for it later. Alright, let's get started.

Sensitive subjects must be discussed. They move us forward in getting tasks or projects done by clarifying our position. In the workplace clear communication increases production. In our personal relationships clear communication is an expression to our loved one we want to connect with them. Overall, all us respond positively to each other when we feel we will be heard.
  1. Before scheduling that meeting write down what you want to accomblish.
  2. Now, write down a brief script to ask for what you want. In your script always include postive statements about the other person. Use words that keep the other person feeling safe.
  3. Practice your script out loud in front of a mirror. (You may want to make sure no one is around.)
  4. Listen to your delivery of your script. Are there inflections of tone that you could change to present your wants in a friendly respectful way?
  5. State your wants in five to ten minutes. Keep it short.
  6. If the other person is not able to hear you at that time choose to reschedule the meeting in a couple of days. Be clear with the other person you desire clear communication with them and if waiting a few days would assist them to be open to communicate with you then do it.
  7. Keep your verbal pace steady and pleasant. If you sense your blood pressure rising, take a deep breath and tell yourself to refocus.

Using safe words or phrases is a thoughtful productive choice in reaching your goals quicker. Let me offer you a few of mine.
  1. "Let me tell you what I heard you say...."
  2. "I want us to improve the quality of our relationship and I would like to share with you some wants that I have, would that be okay?"
  3. "I really appreciate your willingness to connect with me."
  4. "How can I best support you in this conversation?"
