On May 29, 2010, I am participating in a day long fundraiser called Marathon of Sport. All funds raised at the event are donated to Canadian Special Olympics. Throughout the day, I will be competing alongside Special Olympians in Ultimate Frisbee, Flag Football, Soccer, Volleyball and Floor Hockey.

Marathon of Sport is organized by Motionball. Motionball's mandate is to introduce the next generation of donors, volunteers and sponsors to the Special Olympics movement through integrated social and sporting events. Since inception in 2002, motionball has donated over $1,600,000 to Special Olympics Canada.

A Notice on HST...
With respect to the HST, here is some wording:
 
     The Canadian Government has introduced the HST (Harmonized Sales Tax), replacing the GST and PST (RST), effective July 1, 2010.  However, there are transitional rules which took effect May 1, 2010.  The transition period is from May 1, 2010 to June 30, 210.  During this time period, as a provider of services we are required to collect HST for services to be rendered after June 30, 2010.  The HST will be 13% of taxable goods and services.
 
Example:  If you purchase 10 workout session and five of them will be used after June 30, 2010, then we need to collect GST on five sessions and HST on five sessions.

The University Health Network has organized a fantastic inter-hospital Health Challenge Event for all their staff over the month of May.  Faculty members have teamed up and are prepared to have a fitness showdown to determine who will emerge victorious as the Exercise and Nutrition CHAMPIONS!!!!

Q:  Why is it beneficial to stretch AFTER warming up?

A: Stretching cold muscles can actually increase, rather than decrease, the risk of injury. Training sessions should always begin with an easy warm up, consisting of 5 to 10 minutes of brisk walking. Stretching is done only after the warm up.

 

Stretching should be performed with slow, steady movement. Bouncing into a stretch should be avoided, to prevent over-stretching or tearing muscles and tendons.
