Two IMAZ races in 2008?
East Valley Tribune reports change
Tempe may play host to two
Ironman Arizona
events in 2008 - the already sold-out April 13 event as well as a yet-to-be-announced
November race, according to a recent article in the East Valley Tribune.
That would pave the way for Ironman Arizona's permanent move to fall - a schedule
shift that many see as helpful to out-of-state athletes who struggle to train
through the winter months.
According to the Tribune article, Arizona's unsettled spring weather also
helped usher the date change. "Race organizers want to shift the Arizona race to loosen the international Ironman race
circuit during the spring, and to avoid gusty winds and high temperature that
triathletes have confronted since the Arizona
race joined the schedule in 2005," the Tribune reported.
A November 2008 race date has not been decided, but the Tribune said the
weekend before Thanksgiving appears to be emerging as the favorite.

New Feature! Tri Club Profile

Freak Factor est. March 2007 www.freakfactor.org For info: email Russell at mex-i-can@freakfactor.org
Q. What three adjectives best desribe your club? A: Obnoxious, fun, and close Q: What sets Freak Factor apart from other groups? A:
We all actually know each other very well. It's a very small club, and
to become a member one has to meet and be accepted by the whole group.
There's kind of an initiation period you have to get through. Basically,
if we find the person takes themself WAY too seriously, then we
generally don't extend an invitation to join. Q: Sounds scary. Is it? A:It's not a scary initiation kind of thing where you have to walk over burning coals and such. We just want people who aren't easily offended by all the teasing and trash talking that our team is known to do "once in a while." The biggest obstacle is getting through our Freak Factor Forum on the website. If an athlete finds our forum amusing (as sick as it may be some times) then they would probably fit right in with us. Q: What is your club moto? A: "Swim, Bike, Run, and Laugh" It's printed on our tri tops. Q: Do you host regular group workouts? A:
Yes we do. Typically during the race season we swim and run on Tuesday
and Thursday nights and ride Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings,
with a longer ride on Sunday. Q: How can we find out about club meetings? A: Go to the website and check the forum for meetings/dinners/keggers
Q: When will we see Freak Factor race next? A: At the Anthem Days Triathlon on Dec. 8th. Go Freaks!

Gadget Girl Product Review
Spinervals DVDs
By Holly Miller Triple Sports' resident Gagdet Girl
Like many runners, I enthusiastically made the transition to
triathlon. As a spin instructor, I thought cycling would be a cinch. Needless
to say, it has not been so easy.
Not only did I need to learn about gears and chain rings, I
needed to learn how to be as efficient as possible on the bike. That's where
Spinervals came in. These DVDs are an excellent tool for learning how to
improve on specific skill sets, such as increasing muscular strength,
endurance, and speed
Not only that, but for those of us who are a little nervous
about being out on the road, I was able to get comfortable on my bike in the
safety of my own home. In the videos, Coach Troy calls out gears and the DVDs
often show a picture of which chain ring you should be in. I was delighted!
On all of the videos you will find on-screen graphics
showing intensity, time and gearing. You also have the option of listening to
the Spinervals music or just listening to Troy's
instructions (which I do and enjoy my own tunes!).
My favorite is the Hardcore 100. This is a 5.5 hour simulation of a
century ride, excellent training for an iron distance race! The fitness & ultra conditioning videos also are great
overall fitness builders including weights and a stability ball to increase
muscular strength and balance. My favorite is the Iron Girl Full Body Conditioning, an intense workout that had my legs screaming. Both are available to buy or rent at Triple Sports.
