Tulalip Lions Club looking for Cystic Fibrosis Walking Teams
The Tulalip Lions Club would like to challenge other businesses in the area to become part of the 3rd Annual Tulalip Great Strides Walk. Our team has pledged to raise at least $1000.00, again this year. We have 7 walkers all signed up and ready to walk.
It is never too late to sign up a team. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is looking at having 20 walking teams this year, and currently they have 8 including our Tulalip Lions Club Team.
GREAT STRIDES is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's largest and most successful national fundraising event. By walking in the GREAT STRIDES walk at the 2011 Tulalip - Tulalip Amphitheatre walk on 07/09/2011 our team is committed to raising $1000.00. and are challenging others to do the same if possible.
Please help us meet the Cystic Fibrosis Foundations goals by either sponsoring a team, becoming a walker, or just coming out to cheer all of the walkers on. The more people that are aware of what CF is the better the chances are a cure will be found.
The Great Strides page is easy to navigate and anyone making a donation will receive an instant receipt for tax purposes.
Making a donation is easy and secure! Just click the "Click to Donate" button on this page to go to make a donation that will be credited to my team. Any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated!
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a devastating genetic disease that affects tens of thousands of children and young adults in the United States. Research and care supported by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is making a huge difference in extending the quality of life for those with CF. However, we continue to lose precious lives to CF every day. That's why your help is needed now more than ever to ensure that a cure is found sooner - rather than later. To learn more about CF and the CF Foundation, visit www.cff.org.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those with CF! Thank you for supporting the mission of the CF Foundation and GREAT STRIDES!

AIWF OAK EVALUATION SEMINAR Have you ever wondered why wines are aged in oak barrels? Have you ever wondered how the barrels affect the quality of the wines aged in them? If so, then this seminar is for you! This experiential seminar is designed to help you better understand oak effects in your wine, the way barrels are used to achieve ageing, and how oak imparts aroma, flavor, and structure to wines. This seminar will teach you to perceive the differences between light and heavy toasted French and American oak infused into both white and red wines. Willis Hall winemaker, John Bell, will discuss barrel dynamics in the wine ageing process and will provide you with informative reference materials. Following the seminar, you will evaluate samples of commercial wines and discuss the oak influences you perceive in them. Light hors d'oeuvres will be served during the post-seminar discussions. This VERY affordable ($25) seminar is being put on to fulfill the educational mission of the American Institute of Wine and Food (AIWF). - Madison Park Café - Sunday, May 22, 2011 - 5:30pm - (360)653-1247 - Event Info - (425)830-6971 - Sign-up
GUIDE TO WASHINGTON WINES Dieter Schafer, 50-plus-year hospitality veteran and a true gentleman in the industry, has again invited Willis Hall winemaker, John Bell, to be a guest speaker in one class of Dieter's three-Tuesday series of classes appropriately named "Guide to Washington Wines." John will be talking about winemaking and wine tasting as well as addressing the general attributes of the various AVAs in Washington. These classes are held as part of the South Seattle Community College Continuing Education Program. To enroll, please contact the phone number below. - Guide to Washington Wines - May 31, 2011 - 6:00pm - (206)764-5339
SPEAKING ENGAGEMENT John has been invited to speak to the Port Gardiner Rotary Club breakfast on the topic of the business of owning a small winery. John loves to speak to fellow business owners and wine aficionados about Willis Hall and will most likely have to be dragged away from the podium with a long hook. If you can wangle a way in to this meeting, you should explore doing that. It'll be informative and fun! See you there! - Everett Golf and Country Club - Wednesday, June 1, 2011 - 7:15am - Rotary Club of Everett - Port Gardiner
WINEMAKER DINNER Returning to Portfolio Restaurant, perhaps Seattle's least-known haute cuisine restaurant, John Bell reprises his appearance at a winemaker dinner featuring five Willis Hall wines, including a couple not normally found on the restaurant wine list which already features a broad selection of Willis Hall wines. Food courses especially created to match the dinner wines will be prepared by culinary genius Chef David Wynne, chef instructor at Portfolio, the teaching restaurant at The Art Institute of Seattle. Impeccable wine and food service will be provided by Art Institute culinary students, presided over by Restaurant Manager and Sommelier Dieter Schafer, a more-than-50-year veteran of the hospitality trade. At $50 including the wine, this is truly a deal that can't be beat! - Portfolio Restaurant - Friday, June 3, 2011 - 6:00pm - (206)239-2363
AIWF COPPER RIVER SALMON DINNER The annual run of salmon from Alaska's Copper River is a much-anticipated event. So is the annual American Institute of Wine & Food (AIWF) Copper River Salmon dinner that features this mouth-watering salmon at each course. For the second consecutive year, award-winning Chef Rich Coffee at Madison Park Caféwill invent salmon-based preparations created specifically for the wines that will be paired with each course. The winemakers of these wines also will be in attendance to showcase their creations and to chat with you during the event. While Willis Hall wines will not be featured at this dinner, John and Kit will be attending because of John's position on the AIWF Pacific NW Chapter's Board of Directors. All funds raised at this event will be used to support AIWF's scholarships to culinary and enology students at Washington colleges. This unique event is not to be missed! - Madison Park Café - Sunday, June 12, 2011 - 5:30pm - (425)830-6971

May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month
May is Skin cancer awareness month. Skin cancer is the most common of all cancers. It accounts for nearly half of all cancers in the U.S. The best ways to lower the risk of nonmelanoma skin cancer are to avoid intense sunlight for long periods of time and to practice sun safety. If exercising or spending time outdoors, remember to use sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher), wear a hat and protective sunglasses (with 99% to 100% UV absorption) and seek shade whenever possible. Visit the American Cancer Society homepage at www.cancer.org
for more information on skin safety.

Hope! Our Reason to Relay.
You'd be surprised how many of your friends, neighbors, and loved ones have been touched by cancer. Imagine what you could accomplish if everyone came together, if only for one day, united in the fight against cancer.
