"Moving on Up!  Paul Pukis is now owner and CEO of Mosaic Insurance Alliance, LLC.  Paul brought 2 other highly successful agents, all his staff and the staff of the other agents with him to create Mosaic.  As an independent agent, Paul and Mosaic now offer home, auto, business, life and health insurance through 30+ top-rated companies.  Why the move?

Being an independent agent allows Paul and Mosaic to do the shopping for you (Mosaic even takes care of contacting your prior company to let them know you've changed).  Mosaic's ability to work with multiple companies allows you to create unique coverages to fit exactly what you need.

Recently, Mosaic was offered an appointment with Liberty Northwest (LNW).  This local company with national backing offers a wide variety of commercial and business insurance.  The reason this is so important is because this is the first time in over 2 years (since Liberty Mutual purchased Safeco) that a new agency has been selected by Liberty Northwest.  Paul's business plan, dedication do taking the best care of his clients and track record of success helped secure Mosaic this coveted relationship.

Please contact Paul and Mosaic at 360-386-1275 or paulpukis@MosaicIA.com for a review of your protection needs or to simply wish him the best on his new business!"

HomeStreet Bank Receives "Outstanding" Rating Under Community Reinvestment Act

SEATTLE - December 16, 2010 - HomeStreet Bank has received an "Outstanding" rating under the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), a federal regulation that evaluates how effectively federally-insured banks and thrifts meet the credit needs of their communities, including low- and moderate-income residents.  HomeStreet Bank is one of very few banks in the country that has maintained an outstanding rating since the Community Reinvestment Act was passed in 1977.

"We are very proud of our Outstanding rating because it signifies recognition, on a federal level, of our service to customers and communities of all income ranges," said Kathryn Williams, community relations director and CRA officer for HomeStreet Bank.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) evaluated HomeStreet Bank's lending, service, and investment practices and its compliance in these areas as they relate to CRA criteria.  The Bank was recognized for its work providing loans to home buyers of low and moderate income, including through innovative programs such as its own Hometown Home Loan employer-assisted housing program; the state bond loan programs in Washington, Oregon and Hawaii; the Rural Housing Service Farm Home Loan program; the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands program for affordable housing in the State of Hawaii; and a variety of federal programs targeting low- to moderate-income homebuyers.

The Bank was also recognized for financing a large number of community development loans, many of which include affordable units; and for serving the banking needs of the most economically disadvantaged through its participation in the Bank on Seattle-King County program.

"HomeStreet Bank puts great emphasis on its role as a community partner," continued Williams.  "While the CRA evaluation is only one way of measuring the benefit we provide to our communities, it is rewarding to have our efforts recognized in this way."

Founded in 1921, family- and employee-owned HomeStreet Bank is one of the largest privately owned banks in the Pacific Northwest and Hawaii. Headquartered in Seattle, the company has assets of $2.66 billion and a network of 30 branch and mortgage offices. For more information about HomeStreet Bank, visit the company's web site at www.homestreet.com.

Marysville School District to Cut Budget in Mid-Year

Marysville School District to Cut Budget in Mid-Year

For the first time in 30 years the legislature is taking back school funds in mid-year. Marysville will need to cut $1.5 to $1.8 million from this year's school budget.

Superintendent, Larry Nyland, says "it's been a roller coaster year - voter approval of the four-year levy in February was a huge blessing. Loss of the supplemental levy in August along with enrollment decline and some overstaffing was discouraging but doable. The promise of $2.3 million in federal Ed Jobs money in October provided encouraging news. Then came the across-theboard

cuts of 6.3%, and the legislative take-backs."

On Saturday, December 11th the legislature acted to take back:

  • All of the federal Ed Jobs money by shorting districts in their monthly checks; and
  •  Half of the money for smaller class-size in Grades K-3.

For Marysville that means loss of $2.3 million in Ed Jobs money and loss of $600,000 in funding for K-3.

The Governor announced further cuts for next year on December 15th and is to announce more recommended cuts for this year on December 17th. The impacts of these cuts on the district is not yet known.

"We are looking at all possible mid-year cuts," said Nyland. "Reserves, unspent budgets, vacant positions, textbooks, training, maintenance, and even mid-year layoffs or reductions in sports seasons are all being reviewed. We have also invited staff and labor leaders to explore with us all possible solutions that would help us sustain learning and programs. "

Teachers and principals have annual contracts so class sizes are unlikely to be affected mid-year.

On Monday, December 20th, the school board will discuss budget cuts and a delay in the start-up of varsity athletics at Marysville Getchell High School. The district anticipates that budget cuts will need to be agreed upon sometime in January to make the needed reductions of $1.5 to $1.8 million.
