The new program to offer savings on prescription drugs to residents who are

that are not covered by insurance.
The Prescription Discount Card is made available to residents by the City of

in NLC.

An Introduction to the 2010 Census
Counting Everyone Once - and Only Once - and In the Right Place
The foundation of our American democracy is dependent on fair and
equitable representation in Congress. In order to achieve an accurate
assessment of the number and location of the people living within the
nation's borders, the U.S. Constitution mandates a census of the
population every 10 years.
The census population totals determine which states gain or lose
representation in Congress. It also determines the amount of state and
federal funding communities receive over the course of the decade. 2010
Census data will directly affect how more than $4 trillion is allocated
to local, state and tribal governments over the next 10 years. In order
for this funding allocation to be accomplished fairly and accurately,
the goal of the decennial census is to count everybody, count them only
once, and count them in the right place. The facts gathered in the
census also help shape decisions for the rest of the decade about
public health, neighborhood improvements, transportation, education,
senior services and much more.
Reaching an Increasingly Diverse Population
The goal of the 2010 Census is to count all residents living in the
United States on April 1, 2010. The U.S. Census Bureau does not ask
about the legal status of respondents in any of its surveys and census
programs. To help ensure the nation's increasingly diverse population
can answer the questionnaire accurately and completely, about 13
million bilingual Spanish/English forms will be mailed to housing units
in neighborhoods identified as requiring high levels of Spanish
assistance. Additionally, questionnaires in Spanish, Chinese
(Simplified), Korean, Vietnamese and Russian - as well as language
guides in 59 languages - will be available on request.
Recruiting Census Workers
By 2010, there will be an estimated 310 million people residing in
the United States. Counting each person is one of the largest
operations the federal government undertakes. For example, the Census
Bureau will recruit nearly 3.8 million applicants for 2010 Census field
operations. Of these applicants, the Census Bureau will hire about 1.4
million temporary employees. Some of these employees will be using
GPS-equipped hand-held computers to update maps and ensure there is an
accurate address list for the mailing of the census questionnaires.
10 Questions, 10 Minutes to Complete
With one of the shortest questionnaires in history, the 2010 Census
asks for name, gender, age, race, ethnicity, relationship, and whether
you own or rent your home. It takes only about 10 minutes for the
average household to complete. Questions about how we live as a nation
- our diversity, education, housing, jobs and more - are now covered
in the American Community Survey, which is conducted every year
throughout the decade and replaces the Census 2000 long-form
questionnaire.
Responses to the 2010 Census questionnaire are required by law. All responses are used for
statistical purposes only, and all are strictly confidential.

Looking for a unique way to commemorate the 2010 Olympics?

The Greater Marysville
Tulalip Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center is delighted to introduce a
stunning new collector's pin and bookmark combo that celebrates the First
Nations' unprecedented participation in the planning and hosting of the 2010
Olympics. This pin features a
distinctive Coast Salish snowflake design created by Tulalip Tribes' member James
Madison, an artist of growing renown whose work is on display across the Puget
Sound and in British Columbia. Of
Tlingit and Salish descent, James works in various media, such as wood, prints,
glass fusing and blowing, bronze casting and metal fabrication.
Olympic pin collecting and trading is a wildly
popular hobby, considered by many to be a sport in its own right. From its humble origins in 1896 when
athletes, as gestures of goodwill, traded amongst themselves their identifying
cardboard discs (the early predecessor of today's lapel pin) to the modern day
sponsored Pin Tents at the Games, pin trading is fun, fascinating and
addictive! The SnoGold 2010 pin /
bookmark is a beautiful and commemorative keepsake that will be eagerly snapped
up by pin connoisseurs as well as anyone with an interest in Native American
art and the 2010 Olympics.
This unique commemorative is available at the gift shops at Tulalip Resort Casino, Quil Ceda Creek Casino, and Carr's Ace Hardware.

Buy Local- Thrive Local!
|
The Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of
Commerce, in partnership with The Marysville Globe, The Everett Herald,
Arlington Times, and North County Outlook, is proud to support a "Buy Local" awareness & advertising
campaign which has been win-win-win for businesses, consumers and our community
as a whole.
View the latest Buy Local Editorial & Participating Businesses
This program stresses the importance of purchasing
products and services locally by publishing weekly editorials on what a
critical impact these dollars have on our economy and quality of life. Since September of 2009, these inspirational
messages have reached over 97,500 Snohomish County households and businesses
each month, urging and educating citizens to keep their dollars in their own
communities. This program is unique in a
history-making partnership of four newspapers, and has also provided
participating businesses unprecedented exposure at unheard of advertising rates.
Has this program made a difference in
the spending habits of our citizens?
Absolutely YES according to businesses who have been advertisers in the
Buy Local campaign. We have reports of
merchants who, after 20 years of printed advertisements, have finally seen
customers enter their doors on the influence of the printed "Buy Local"
message. We hear from citizens who have
changed their shopping patterns to patronize local businesses after learning
what a critical difference this makes in their family's quality of life.
Now,
we want to spread the message further.
Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Roy Robinson Chevrolet and printing from Concentric Color Printing, we are sending every
business in our surrounding communities a "Buy Local" sign to proudly display
in their windows. With your help, we can
reach even more people and encourage them to patronize their local businesses -
YOUR BUSINESS - instead of going
outside their community. Please do your
part and proudly display the enclosed "Buy Local" sign and tell your customers
why it's so important!
Want
to expand your involvement? There is
space available in the Buy Local campaign if you want to participate. Imagine advertising in four newspapers - one
each week per month with a combined
readership of over 97,500 households; AND a Chamber email newsletter reaching
over 2,000 subscribers; AND multiple websites exposing your business 24/7 to
over 320,000 monthly - ALL for as low as $25 per month!
Let
the local community know you exist! Contact the Chamber at (360) 659-7700 email Kimberlie@marysvilletulalipchamber.com to make sure your business is known and
showcased to over 95% of Snohomish County as a proud "Buy Local" participant.

Chamber Mourns Passing of Longtime Volunteer
|
The
Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce sadly
acknowledges and mourn the passing of one of our
volunteers, Sandra Moody.
Sandra, one of our Saturday morning mainstays for years, was
diagnosed with lung cancer in June, 2008. While treatment did improve
her, as
she showed remission, pancreatic cancer then took over. Though she did
everything she could reasonably do to stem its spread, she was,
ultimately,
unsuccessful. She passed away quietly on the morning of Saturday,
February 13.
She was always one of the Chamber's biggest boosters, always with a
smile and
good conversation. To say she will be missed is a gross understatement,
as she
had an effect on all that came into contact with her.
A memorial service was held for Sandra on Thursday,
February 25, 2010, at the Mountain View Presbyterian Church, located at
5115
100th NE in Marysville, at 11:00........We wish her peace.

First
Heritage Bank announced in January that it closed the offering of its Series A
Preferred Stock to its existing shareholders, employees and selected other
friends and family, on December 31st, raising nearly $3,000,000 after offering
expenses from the sale of 2,757 shares. While
2009 was a very challenging year for the banking industry, Cathy Reines,
President and CEO of First Heritage Bank, is very optimistic about the
future. "We've just closed a successful
capital offering within our community, fourth quarter provided significant
improvements in the Bank's loan portfolio, and SBA lending, which has long been
the heart of this organization, has increased dramatically," stated Ms. Reines.
The
offering maintains the Bank's capital ratios at "well capitalized" levels as
defined by regulatory standards. One
half of the Bank's employees and every member of the board of directors
purchased shares in the offering. Ms.
Reines concluded: "While other banks have chosen to turn to institutional
investors for additional capital needs, we elected to stay within the local
community and work primarily with existing shareholders. Monies were raised from local shareholders
who possess a strong sense of community and great confidence in this Bank."

March
24, 2010 ∙ 8:30 am to 10:30 am
Please call to register as space is very
limited.
1238 State Avenue
Marysville, WA
98270.
360-651-0308
Marysville residents and local business owners looking
for a casual setting in which to meet and converse with Mayor Dennis Kendall
will have an opportunity when he hosts a coffee klatsch on Wednesday,
March 24th, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am at HomeStreet Bank.
Marysville residents who have issues they would like
to discuss or who would simply like to meet the
Mayor are invited to join him for a cup of coffee.
The
Mayor already advocates open public communications through responding to phone
calls and emails from constituents, as
well as one-on-one scheduled visits.
Constituents can also have their comments addressed under the audience
participation segment at regular City Council meetings. Residents can sign in, step up to the podium
and voice their concerns to the Mayor and Council. By comparison, coffee klatsches will be more
informal and perhaps less imposing to some people, Kendall
says.
The Mayor states, "I
would like to make this a tradition during my time as Mayor, and extend an
invitation to all citizens."
