"Sales & Use Tax Reverse Audits:
Why They are Essential"
Bob Bortnick

Bob Bortnick
Director of Tax, Sales and Use Tax Services
ADP Tax Credit Services

Sales and Use tax regulations are getting more complicated every day. Effective tax compliance is crucial to ensuring that the regulations are adhered to in each state in which a company files returns. The review of internal controls and proper training is essential to ensure that exposure is kept to a minimum and companies don't have to pay large penalties and interest in the event of an audit. A key element in ensuring that a company is in full compliance is to conduct periodic sales and use tax reverse audits performed either internally or by third parties. In this session, we will discuss how reverse audits may identify refundable overpayments of tax on purchases of goods and services that are exempt by law. We will also talk about how reverse audits may uncover exposure relevant to taxes that should have been paid on the purchase of taxable goods and services.
