 Original play draws on the experience of local African-Americans, celebrates with stories and songs
 
The original play Another River Flows - stories, songs and a celebration of the Lehigh Valley Black Experience, produced by Touchstone Theatre in collaboration with the Lehigh Valley Black African Heritage History Project and directed by Touchstone's recent Producing Artistic Director Mark McKenna, will open for preview performances on May 30-31 at the Third Street Alliance in Easton. The show will then travel to the Ice House in Bethlehem on June 6-7 and to the Allentown Symphony Hall on June 13-14. Tickets are Pay What you Will in Easton and $14/$16(seniors/students) in Bethlehem and Allentown.  more here ...

MUSIKFEST 2008Wednesday, Aug. 1-10



This August, it's 10 days of exciting music, food and fun as Musikfest celebrates its 25th Anniversary with "The Art of Musik."

This year's lineup features hundreds of great acts, including Earth, Wind & Fire, Avril Lavigne, Boston, Jethro Tull, The Dixie Hummingbirds, The Christian McBride Band, Rosanne Cash, John Gorka, Dennis DeYoung and many others.



Enjoy dynamic live music on 14 indoor and outdoor stages, as well as a wide variety of food, children's activities, visual arts and crafts and a closing-night fireworks spectacular. New attractions for 2008 include the Lyrikplatz singer-songwriter stage on Main Street and the Art of Musik Workshop Series at Moravian College's Peter Hall.

POLICE CIVIL SERVICE BOARD AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER


The Allentown Police Civil Service Board is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer to establish a 2008 preliminary eligibility list.

Applicants for the position of Entry-Level Patrol Officer must be age 20 (twenty) to apply and must be age 21 (twenty-one) to become appointed and shall possess a diploma from an accredited high school or a graduate equivalency diploma. In addition, every applicant must be a United States citizen, be physically and mentally fit to perform the full duties of a police officer, be eligible to receive certification from the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC), and must posses a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

The average salary for a 3 yr. Patrolman is $ 48,546.00 with excellent benefits and vacation.

Applications may be obtained between April 1, 2008 through May 23, 2008, on our website at www.allentownpa.gov, or at the Human Resources Office, City Hall, Room 233, 435 Hamilton St., Allentown, PA 18101-1699. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. A non-refundable application fee of $50.00 is required when returning completed application (money order or cert. check only, no personal checks or cash).


All qualified applicants will be given a written examination on Saturday, June 14, 2008. A written notification will be sent out to all qualified applicants with all of the test information. There are no additional test dates available.


Application deadline is Friday, May 23, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. All applications must be received by this date in order to be considered.
