Kweisi Mfume to speak at PPL Business Resource Group banquet Feb. 15th

Kweisi Mfume, a former NAACP president and congressman, will be the guest speaker Feb. 15 at a scholarship banquet hosted by the African-American Business Resource Group.
 
The event, which is open to the public, will start at 7 p.m. at the Wood Dining Room in Iacocca Hall at Lehigh University's Mountaintop campus, Bethlehem. Mfume will discuss community investment, community involvement and diversity. full story
 
Tickets for the scholarship banquet are $40 per person. To order tickets, send a check made out to the African-American Business Resource Group's scholarship fund to Anita Scott at PPL Electric Utilities, 600 Larch St., Scranton, PA 18509-2899. Spike Lee @ Moravian College's Johnston Hall March 11th
Moravian College's United Student Government will have its second annual Prestigious Speaker - Spike Lee. The date and time of the event is March 11, 7 PM in Johnston Hall. The event will be free to all but is a ticketed event.
 
Tickets will be distributed at the HUB Desk (no tickets will be sent via mail or held at the door) and each individual will only be allowed to get two tickets. We do anticipate having a small number of tickets available at the door but can not guarantee this will occur. Moravian College students will be able to start getting their tickets on Feb. 11, while everyone else will be able to start getting tickets on Feb. 25.

The Federal Highway Administration/Federal Transit Administration (FHWA/FTA) will be conducting a review of the Lehigh Valley Transportation Study (LVTS) on Thursday, February 7 and Friday, February 8, 2008.  LVTS is the organization responsible for transportation planning and project programming in Lehigh and Northampton Counties.  The public, elected officials, and other interested parties are invited to attend a public meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, February 8 at PennDOT's conference room, 1002 Hamilton Street, Allentown, PA.  If you require special assistance to attend and participate in this meeting, please contact Michael Donchez at (610) 264-4544.

Lehigh celebrates Black Heritage Month with enlightening, informative and entertaining programs throughout the month of February. .

During February, an exhibit titled "They Made a Difference: A Look at Famous African-Americans" will be on display through Feb. 29 in Penn State Lehigh Valley's Concourse Gallery. The exhibit will include a look at people who have impacted the rich history of the African-Americans.

The exhibit will include a look at the contributions of the following individuals: Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Booker T. Washington, Marcus Garvey, Jackie Robinson, Rosa Louise Parks,  Martin Luther King, Jr., Nat King Cole and Thurgood Marshall. The exhibit is being sponsored by the Penn State Lehigh Valley Diversity and Wellness Committee.

The exhibit is free to the public from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays. The gallery is located at the Penn State Lehigh Valley campus at 8380 Mohr Lane in Fogelsville.
