  • Moravian College Music Institute 15th Annual July Jazz Getaway
  • July 8th to Saturday July 14th
Accomplished contemporary saxophonist son of jazz legend John Coltrane

Moravian College Music Institute will hold the 15th Annual July Jazz Getaway from Sunday, July 8 to Saturday, July 14 at the Priscilla Payne Hurd Campus in historic Bethlehem, Pa.

The camp provides a memorable experience for amateur jazz musicians who flock to Moravian from across the region to learn from and to jam with some of the biggest names in jazz. JJG participants travel from several states across the country and represent various occupations. Among them are: college professor, scientist, mail carrier and advertising executive. What brings them together is their love of jazz.

Ravi Coltrane will be the guest artist at this year's July Jazz Getaway. He is a tenor and soprano saxophonist, bandleader, and composer, who has fronted a variety of jazz lineups, recorded critically-hailed albums as a leader, and produced recordings by other artists including his mother, the late Alice Coltrane. Ravi is the son of the legendary jazz saxophonist and composer John William Coltrane, a hugely influential jazz musician who has been credited with reshaping modern jazz and with being the predominant influence on successive generations of saxophonists.

July Jazz Getaway events open to the public . View events here.

The July Jazz Getaway Ensembles Concert will be held on Saturday, July 14 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature the talents of camp participants. Admission is free.

  • "Unleashed" by Andre D. Williams
  • See Book Cover below
Poems About Family, Fight, Inspiration and Motivation

Unleashed is a powerfully enriching forty-poem book that was written with the intent of depicting the life many people would like to live or already are living. The intentions of each poem are to cause people to reflect on life, think about the future, about loving themselves and others, about the importance of family, and about ways to motivate themselves and others. The majority of my poems have no rhyme because they are done more so in the spoken-word format, which has allowed me to get more passionate and deeper, in many cases offering both graphic and humorous details. I titled the book Unleashed because I am unleashing my feelings, my fears, emotions, desires, and details of my trials and triumphs, all the while wondering how many other people in the world want to be unleashed within their minds and just be free to live life as they so wish and pray.

ANDRE D. WILLIAMS grew up in TakomaPark, Maryland, graduated from Montgom-ery Blair High in Silver Spring, Maryland, and attended the University of Maryland, where he completed his education in 1991.

He has worked at the Washington Post, the Montgomery Journal in Montgomery County, Maryland, the Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin, and the Morning Call in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, 1994 to the present. He also has done extensive radio and television broadcasting. Mr. Williams is a single father. He and his son, Chevon, currently live in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

    June 24 - September 16, 2007

Since 1930, the "Loonie Tunes" and "Merry Melodies" of Warner Bros. have delighted audiences young and old with their wit and surprising sophistication. Originally shown in theatres, where they were the most popular cartoons of their day, the Warner Bros. cartoons developed new audiences with the rise of television in the 1950s.

Many people have seen these cartoons literally hundreds of times as they were growing up, yet most of these viewers are unfamiliar with the actual artwork from which these films were created. The Art of Warner Bros. Cartoons is a greatly expanded version of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) show in New York, and consists of over 150 drawings, paintings, cels and animated films of Warner Bros. classic cartoons from the 1930s through 1960.

Works by all the directors, including Chuck Jones, Tex Avery, Friz Freleng and Bob Clampett, now considered the giants of American animated filmmakers, are richly represented.
