  • LVCY Releases Community Schools Guide

United Way and the Lehigh Valley Council for Youth, in cooperation with multiple school districts and other partners, are implementing the national Community School model in our region. Did you know?

About 25 percent of students in the Lehigh Valley live in poverty. Over 40 percent of students in eight districts scored below proficiency in math and/or reading on 2003-04 PSSA tests. More than 1,000 Lehigh Valley students drop out of high school each year. More students are coming to school with complex, unmet needs.

Community schools provide some powerful solutions to these problems.
