Brown is considered to be one of the opera world's fastest rising stars. She made her Metropolitan Opera debut in October of 2004 singing the title role of Aida. Her favorite opera roles are the title characters in Aida and Tosca, Elisabetta in Don Carlo, Ariadne in Ariadne auf Naxos and Bess in Porgy and Bess. For her recital at Moravian, Brown will draw on her eclectic inventory of opera arias, arts songs by African-American composers, and spirituals from her “Mosaic” CD.

What do Donovan McNabb, Michael Jordan and Colin Powell have in common? They’ve all been mentors. Men, you are needed to help boys in at risk situations! Several boys who are proud of their African American heritage have applied for a mentor, someone they can “look up to”, a trusted friend. Please consider taking a couple hours a week at your convenience to make a difference in a young man’s life.

Two personal mentoring programs, Aspires (in partnership with the Lehigh County Conference of Churches) for Allentown youth, and Roads to Success, for Easton youth, serve boys and girls enrolled in Communities In Schools stay-in-school programs for grades 6-12. Women mentors are always needed, too, but boys wait far longer to be matched.
