GOVERNOR RICK PERRY VISITS THE DARRINGTON SEMINARY ON JULY 2, 2012!

SPECIAL VISIT BY GOVERNOR PERRY HIGHLIGHTS HIS INTEREST IN AND SUPPORT OF THE HISTORIC NEW DARRINGTON SEMINARY AT DARRINGTON PENITENTIARY IN ROSHARON, TEXAS

Governor Rick Perry showed his enthusiastic support for the Darrington Seminary by visiting the prison on July 2, 2012.  He was accompanied by Senators John Whitmire and Dan Patrick, along with TDCJ Executive Director Brad Livingston and his top staff; the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary executives Dr. Jason Deusing and Dr. Denny Autrey and others; and personally invited The Heart of Texas Foundation to attend as well.  Governor Perry recognized, as did Senator Whitmire and Patrick, the work that the Heart of Texas Foundation did to help bring the seminary into being.  We were very grateful for the recognition, but we are always careful to point out that it has taken the very Hand of God, and the support of many, for this historic event to have occurred.

Governor Perry announced to the Senators that he will visit Angola Penitentiary with Grove Norwood in the near future, and Governor Perry said with much enthusiasm that he plans to invite Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal to join him on the Angola visit, to be scheduled in the near future.

The Governor also brought his own Pastor, Mac Richard, pastor of Lake Hills Church in Austin.

Here are two links to publications that wrote about the event.  There were no media invited to the event by the Governor, but note has been taken of the visit throughout the state.  Here are two articles you might enjoy.

BEGINNING TONIGHT, JULY 8:  OUR NEW RADIO PROGRAM, "DEEP IN THE HEART," PRODUCED BY THE HEART OF TEXAS FOUNDATION.

To be aired regularly on KKHT FM 100.7, Sunday nights at 8:00 pm to 8:30 pm.   This new radio show is hosted by Grove Norwood, and will be a weekly Sunday-evening devotional, especially directed at the incarcerated men, women, and teenagers in Texas prisons in the KKHT listening area.  KKHT is Houston's most powerful FM Station, with 100,000 watts and a listening area that encompasses an estimated 5 million people-- extending in range primarily south to Galveston,  east to the Louisiana border, and north to Huntsville area.  Many Texas prisons are covered in this broadcast pattern.

Tonight's program will feature Grove with a devotional entitled, "How can God use a person like me?"  Each week Grove will address a question that he is asked by inmates in Texas prisons that he visits regularly.  The program welcomes sponsors, and has four sponsors at this time.  Each Sunday night program will feature one of the sponsors.  The sponsors at present are Papa Murphy's Pizza in Houston, MTF Equipment, Royal Disposal, and our dear church friends, Ralph & Mary Clinard.  Other supporters (businesses or individuals) are welcome.  The cost is extremely low, thanks to KKHT!
