Father's Day
OK Dads, June 17th is only a few days away...Happy Father's Day!! Did you know that according to the Survey of Income and Program Participation (2010), there are approximately 67.8 million fathers across the nation?! And do you want some fun trivia? We did a little exploring for you: While there were a few times when some celebrated Father's Day on their own, recognition for what we now know as the official Father's Day goes to a woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd. In 1910 she decided she was going to celebrate her father's life in honor of her widowed father, William Jackson Smart, a Civil War veteran who was raising six children alone. She set up the first celebration in Spokane, Washington where her father lived. She tried to set it for June 5th, his birthday, but didn't give the coordinators enough notice to make plans for the festivity. So, the date was then set for the 3rd Sunday of June.
It wasn't until 1913, that it was proposed to Congress to nationally recognize this "Father's Day" as a holiday. Congress rejected the proposal. Again in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson tried to make it a recognized holiday, but Congress feared that it would become commercialized and rejected it once again. Finally, in 1966 President Lyndon B Johnson issued what is known as the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers. He designated the 3rd Sunday of June as the day for that purpose. But it wasn't until 6 years later, in 1972, that President Richard Nixon signed a law proclaiming that Father's Day would be considered a permanent national holiday?! A lot of you fathers out there are actually older than the holiday itself! We, the staff of Mike Wood Builders & Re-Bath wish you a wonderful Father's day! |
Can I Trust You With My Remodeling Project?
Before beginning a remodeling project there are several things you need to know before selecting your contractor or handyman. You trust your bank with your money, your auto insurance company with your vehicles, your anti-virus software with your computer security, why would you trust just "anyone" to come into your home? We know at least one company you CAN trust.....
Mike Wood Builders and Re-Bath both have city and a state licenses. The state of Georgia requires a contractor to hold a state contractor's license for any job over $2,500. Not only does Mike Wood Builders and Re-Bath possess their city and state contractor's license, our owner is a licensed Master Plumber and Electrician.
Workers Compensation and General Liability insurance is a huge issue. If a contractor or one of his employees were to be injured while working at your home, someone would have to pay for their medical attention. Instead of that employee coming after you and your homeowner's insurance, you will want to make sure that anyone working at your home is covered by workers compensation and general liability insurance. Yes, Mike Wood Builders and Re-Bath are both fully insured.
Finally, be sure to get a contract in writing. You want to make sure it's clear what work will be done for the amount of money you can spend. You don't want the contractor or handyman coming back to you saying that he or she needs more money. Mike Wood Builders and Re-Bath provide their customers with a contract explaining exactly what services will be provided and what it will cost. No surprises. Any change orders will be discussed prior to being done.
Mike Wood Builders and ReBath takes great pleasure in making your home fit your lifestyle and needs. Call us for a free in-home estimate of work you'd like to see done. |
