 | Picking strawberries at the Salinas ALBA farm |
Next Saturday April 28th Monta Vista Market will be sponsoring the first visit to our farm partner, ALBA, located in the fertile Parajo Valley near Salinas. You'll have the opportunity to see your produce while still in the ground, pick fresh, ripe strawberries to take back home, and talk with ALBA staff and the ALBA farmers about their programs and farming businesses.
(Special Note: Our demo chef partner, Joni Sare, will come along to keep the conversation going with tips on choosing, cooking, and melding your produce, grains, spices, and sauces to make great meals. She may even make the box lunches!)
Upon arrival at ALBA, staff will give a 30-minute overview of the ALBA farmer and consumer training programs they run. Then we'll be off for a tour of the fields to see what's up. Next we'll visit the ALBA Organics brand refigeration and packing facilities on-site. Then it's a box lunch with some of the ALBA staff and farm proprietors, before heading back home with a brief stop at ALBA's second farm site located near Watsonville.
Cost of the visit, including transportation and lunch, is $15.00 per person. Volunteer car pool drivers will receive a $20 gas allowance. Kids from 10 to 16 are welcome if accompanied by an adult. Sign up in the store ($15 required to register). This visit is limited to the first 20 participants who sign and pay.
