Fasting & Prayer: An Old & New Covenant Survey (2)

Please read these scriptures prayerfully and let them ignite in you the passion to stand before Abba Father as sons who take responsibility for this earth He gave us charge over!

Moses Fasted 40 Days and Nights to receive the Law
Exodus 24:12-18

Elijah fasted 40 days and nights!
1 Kings 19:7-8

When Multiple troubles confronted Judah, a fast was proclaimed!
2 Chronicles 20:1-4

To reform the broken system, Ezra proclaimed a fast!

Ezra 8:21-23

21 Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.
22 For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that forsake him.
23 So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us.

Burden for Jerusalem drove Nehemiah to fast - and God used him!

Nehemiah 1:3-5

3 And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
4 And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
5 And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:

Fasting was proclaimed by Esther to defeat plans of Satan!

Esther 4:15-17

15 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,
16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
17 So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.

To fast aright means to make first things first: our hearts!

Isaiah 58:5-7

5 Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?
6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

Daniel, one of the greatest prophets of all time was a man of fasting!
Daniel 9:2-3

2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

Let us soak ourselves in The Word, The Blood of The Lamb and proceed to the Throne of Grace this morning to stand in the gap for fulfilment of the perfect will of God and manifestation of His remnant world-wide! Let us pray for our loved ones, our communities, cities, States, Nation. Let The Kingdom of God be made manifest and let those appointed thereunto pay the price for the King to reign in their hearts!

Look good, not glum! Your heart is what Abba is looking for! Proceed in faith into the day praying without ceasing. If you are able, please skip one meal today!
