Greetings!
We have passed the middle of August and you can start to sense that fall is right around the corner. The days have been warm but the nights are starting to cool down. We have had a few nights where is has dropped down into the low 60's. Even with the Labor Day Weekend not too far away, the last week of August previews what the shoulder season is all about. There are some lodging properties that will reduce their rates during the midweek time period. The weekends remain pretty busy through out September with the many weddings that are held on our island, especially September 9 & 10.
There are still some big summertime events this coming weekend. The annual sandcastle contest hosted by the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce. This events is great for all ages and fun day at the beach. It was a fun-filled day for participants or admirers of sandcastle sculpting. A visit to Jetties Beach to watch the sculpting in action or view the finished sculptures at sunset.
Another fun Nantucket experience is the Annual Nantucket Demo Derby held out in Tom Nevers Field. This two day event starts on Saturday as locals and summer visitors stream in to watch as locals smash and bash each until there is only one vehicle left in somewhat good condition. Click here to watch a video of last years event on Plum TV.

The Opera House Cup Regatta is a cherished tradition, held on the third Sunday of August on Nantucket. The 39th Annual Opera House Cup Regatta will be Sunday, August 21, 2011. The Opera House Cup Regatta was the first all-wooden, single-hulled classic boat regatta on the East Coast, and it attracts some of the finest sailboats in the country. |

After Labor Day weekend take advantage of reduced rates and enjoy our beautiful Fall weather and relaxed off-season atmosphere. The fall months of September through November can be the some of finest months when indian summer sometimes takes hold. The ocean temperatures tend to stay on the mild side until at least the end of September. There are activities such as Nantucket Fall Restaurant Week, Nantucket Historical Association's Harvest Fair, and the Nantucket Conservation Cranberry Festival. |
