Wintriss Die Protection Knowledge Base

The Wintriss Controls Group has been in the die protection business for over 50 years.   We learned a lot in the last half-century, and we'd like to share it with you.   Last year, we began publishing monthly Die Protection tips.   These articles cover a variety of topics including implementation strategy, sensor selection, and sensor installation advice.

This month, we're happy to announce that we are launching a new Die Protection Knowledge Base.   Wintriss will add a new article to this archive each month, so please bookmark the page and check back often.

Setting the Industry Standard in Ultra-Sonic Loop Controls
 CS5000 Series

Coiltek's CS-5000 puts the reliability and accuracy of ultrasonic sensing to work for the specific purpose of slack loop control. The system is built into a stout steel stand so that the ultrasonic sensor is stationed directly over the stock. By sensing the height of the stock, the CS-5000 controls the replenishment of the loop by the feed device (straightener, decoiler, puller, etc.). Set up in 'take-up' mode, it can also control a downstream device, such as a rewind stand.

The design and functionality of the Un-Coiler allows operators to change coils more quickly. Once an Un-Coiler is loaded, the operator simply guides the first coil around the drum and into the production machine's feeding mechanism - an operation that takes about five minutes. When the top coil runs out, the operation is repeated on the next coil and so on. Those five-minute intervals multiplied by the number of coils on a pallet add up to a fraction of the time it takes to change coils on single coil systems. There's no replenishment and hoisting time between coil changes. Further, thanks to the Un-Coiler's superb tension control, it helps to reduce misfeeds and tool breakage, another dramatic timesaving feature.

Lever Lift

Norwalk Lever Lift

The Un-Coiler LEVER LIFT coil payoff is the newest development in coil feeding equipment for materials loaded on reels. Flat strip or wire reels can be loaded in the vertical position without additional lifting equipment or strenuous operator labor. Coils can be placed on the drive rollers without effort speeding up coil turn-around time; decreasing production downtime. Quick set up of the strip through the variable speed control also minimizes time and operator effort. Simply roll the reel on its flanges up to the LEVER LIFT, position the supporting rollers, and lift up to 2000 lbs off the floor with one handed effort. Variable speed control responds to the pull of the strip and feeds material automatically to meet demand rate.
