Iola Car Show and Swap Meet, Iola, WI,
I have a brother and a sister. Every two years we have a family reunion at one of our houses. This year was my sister's turn and she happens to live in central Wisconsin. So I made sure to convince her to time our get- together such that I could spend a day at the Iola Car Show and Swap Meet.

The event was held July 7 through the 10th and this year the theme was Delightful Dodges & DeSotos. This event is one of the premier old car events of the summer months. It is sponsored by Old Cars Weekly and it is held on their grounds in Iola, WI.  | |

While certainly not as large as Hershey, it is still a very large swap meet, and combined, as it is, with a car show and car corral that together have thousands of cars, it makes for a lot of walking and a full day or more to see all that there is to see. | |

Kearney Cruise Nite - My Reliant and Lexington

Rendezvous - The Rest of The Story
The video I linked to last month was Rendezvous and is sometimes subtitled Ferrari in Paris. The actual correct name for the film is C'était un Rendezvous meaning "It Was A Date". The film was shot in Paris 1976 in the early morning hours and the car was driven by an unidentified Formula 1 driver, or at least so goes the legend. The most interesting fact is that the car was not a Ferrari at all, but was a Mercedes 450 SEL, 6.9 liter with an automatic transmission.

The soundtrack was altered in post-production to use the sounds of a Ferrari 275 GTB owned by Director Claude Lelouch. Lelouch was arrested after the film was released but he refused to name the driver and charges were eventually dropped.

Tip For Tour Directors
You probably know that we have a long term relationship with The Automobile Club of America with respect to the Glidden Tour. They help us in many ways including providing banners, trouble trucks, and trophies. When it comes to our other national tours we are pretty much on our own. But maybe we aren't.
It started with a conversation between Activities VP, Don Knight, and his contact at Grundy Insurance. He mentioned in passing that we were doing a Western National Tour this summer. When they found out we were doing a national event they decided to provide some sponsorship and have been very helpful. They have provided very nice tour bags, banners, literature and three very nice trophies.
So the lesson is don't hesitate to ask. You may be surprised at the level of help and support that can be achieved with a few phone calls.

Photo Site - See Link in Quick Links
The Photo Site is one I created primarily for my local chapter, although many VMCCA members from other areas now visit it. It covers all the local, regional, and national events that I attend. Obviously, I cannot attend everything but I would like this to become a site for photos from all our regions and chapters.
So, who has photos from any of this years tours? I would love to share them with everyone. Send them to me!
