Denny Bowsher and His 1966 Ford Mustang

1966 Mustang Bowsher

Denny & Barbara Bowsher and their 1966 Mustang

The year was 1969 and Denny Bowsher was to be deployed to Southeast Asia in two weeks. The Vietnam War was raging. What better time then to buy the car of your dreams, a 1966 Mustang Convertible.

Denny was sent to Thailand, courtesy of the United States Air Force, and served as an electronic warfare repairman servicing F-105 Thunderchief jets.

The good news is Denny made it back home safely and that he still owns that Mustang. The Bowsher family lives in Tallmadge, Ohio and they belong to the nearby Hall of Fame Chapter.

The photo at the top is "Photoshopped". It shows Denny, Barbara, and the Mustang in front of a covered bridge in Indiana that bears a very apropos name. It is a good seven hours away from the Bowsher home though and Denny isn't sure the old Ford is up to the trip. He is working to up the level of reliability and his confidence level in the car so they can take a real photo of the car and the bridge together. Send us a copy when you get that picture Denny.

Heritage Tour a Success!!!

The Heritage Tour was a real success despite the challenge of the poor weather in the days prior to the tour.

This year the tour took place May 1 to 6, in and around Murfreesboro, TN. and was designed for cars from 1955 and older. Have a look at a few of the cars on tour.

Somewhere West of Laramie - Western National Tour, Laramie WY, Aug 21-26

Jordan ad

As we go to press, the Heritage and 1&2 Cylinder tours are history and the Chrome Glidden is but a few days away. The national tours of 2011 will be but a memory before you know it.

So don't wait any longer. A great tour is just waiting for your reservation. Join us on the Western National Tour in Laramie, Wyoming and get a taste of the real old west. Anybody out there with a Jordan? It really ought to be on this tour!

The dates are Aug. 21-26. Western National Tours are quite special in that they are the only VMCCA tours that will accept any automobile 25 years old and older. That results in the widest variety of old cars that you will ever see on a tour.

This tour offers national awards judging. With a little more than 2 months before the event to go, we already have more than 50 cars registered. Yet none have signed up to be judged. Someone out there must want to take advantage of this judging opportunity. Come on. Sign up!

Thanks to Grundy and their sponsorship we have beautiful tour bags, first class car banners, and wonderful trophies. This is shaping up to be a really nice event.

We have never had a national tour in the beautiful state of Wyoming before so the location is for us a first. It is definitely worth seeing. The cutoff for registration will be about the end of July, so come on, get registered!

66th AAA Glidden Tour, Sep. 18-24, Cumberland, MD

The last national event of the touring season is the 66th AAA Glidden Tour. You may know that although VMCCA revived the Glidden Tours in 1946 and owns the copyright to the name, we share the honor of putting on AAA Glidden Tours with the Antique Automobile Club of America. We alternate years. This year is an AACA year.

The tour will occur Sep. 18-24 in Cumberland, MD. Hotel information is in the link at left. Contact AACA for tour highlights and registration information.

Of course, these are just the national events. We also have a wide variety of regional events. Many of these are as large and every bit as impressive as the national tours. Check out The Central Nickel Age Tour, The Bonneville Region Tour, The Grand Indiana Tour, The Three Rivers Tour, and The Lake Superior Regional Tour.  Most have live links in the left column to registration information.

Have a great touring summer!

Join the VMCCA page on Facebook!

Facebook has become an extremely popular social networking site, reportedly having more than 500,000,000 users. That is something like one in fifteen people on the planet! There is no doubt that it is a great tool for keeping in touch with people and organizations in a way that was undreamed of and impossible just a few short years ago.

Ever wonder how to get power windows in your old car? Here you go.

Photo Site - See Link in Quick Links

The Photo Site is one I created primarily for my local chapter, although many VMCCA members from other areas now visit it. It covers all the local, regional, and national events that I attend. Obviously, I cannot attend everything but I would like this to become a site for photos from all our regions and chapters.

So, who has photos from any of this years tours? I would love to share them with everyone. Send them to me!

Whatsit answer:This being the 100th anniversary of the first Indy 500, we'll test your knowledge. You may know that that the 1911 race was won by Ray Harroun in the 1911 Marmon-Wasp, but what was the pace car that year?  - A 1911 Stoddard-Dayton.
