The Red Vault
July Design Newsletter

Greetings!

Ah, Summer time!  I have been spending some time this summer at the beach.  The ocean views, the salty air, the calming atmosphere - they all lend themselves to a relaxed decorating style.

I have been visiting with some of The Red Vault dealers and saw some pieces that would be perfect in a beach home.

I stopped by Area and visited with Daniel Cuellar.  He was happy to show me around and said that business has been great this summer, and Area is expecting a huge new shipment this weekend - go by and visit them.

Joy Jenkins creates large-scale fantasy chandeliers and mirrors that are breath taking. She personally collects the shells herself, and then applies each one in a long, yet meticulous fashion. The results are truly fantastic.

I stopped by and visited with Susan Haralson at Creative Flooring.  She recommends these colorful rugs for the beach. They are flat weave wool rugs and come in an array of natural colors.  They can be custom made to any size you desire.

Alternatively, seagrass is always a very popular choice in either wall-to-wall or custom cut rugs.  She says they have installed countless seagrass rugs in homes at the beach.

Oxford Contractors Tip of the week:

Painting

For the best color results and to use less paint always use a primer. Primer comes in the basis white and now comes in many other colors to get the best color out of your selection. In choosing your color, paint a section of your wall with color of choice. Use the primer and then apply one coat of paint let dry and add another coat. View this color in natural light and home lighting at night. This is the best way to test and ensure your color choice.  We are seeing more blue and lavender this year following the trends but remember to select colors that match your taste and design.

No matter how the good the person or contractor is at painting, always use proper protection methods which are the following:

  • Use a drop cloth for the floor and to cover other furnishings
  • Move furniture and materials away from the painting areas and walkways
  • Use blue painter tape
  • Use a painting pan

Always fix problem areas before painting never paint over them.  Oxford is a full service general contractor but has in-house painters to handle any size job and uphold the professional standards set at Oxford.  Contact us for any questions and assistance.  robert@oxfordcontractors.com or kollin@oxfordcontractors.com
