Our 2010 Camp

Camp 4 ended as fast as it began -- truly the meaning of time flying while having fun!  It sure was a fun week filled with great kids.  32 boys and girls and over 70 volunteers!!!

Thank you to our wonderful sponsors and volunteers.  I know I say it every year, but its worth repeating.  We cannot do this without you.  You make our camp a success.  We are so very grateful for all that you do.  Our wonderful sponsors who donate money, time and items so that each day the kids have camp shorts, t-shirts and tennis shoes and socks to wear during camp and gear to skate in.  And to the many of you who donate food and snacks for the kids and volunteers.  Then for the kids to end the week with a backpack full of goodies and school supplies.  The kids started school on the 19th of August  -- what pressure lifted off their parents to already have their school supplies taken care of.

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who gave up a lot of time to be with us during the week.  We even had a few travel to Denver from Dallas and Arizona.  We also had a volunteer age span this year from 8 - 80!   There is something for everyone to do!  Since our first camp, 95% of our volunteers have returned every year.  With this being camp 4, we were like a well-oiled machine!  We had a few new volunteers join us and you would've thought they had been there all 4 years too!

During the week I experience such an amazing feeling  of gratitude that grows each year.  The giving from corporations, individuals and the volunteers to make a young child's experience memorable for a week and what they can reflect on for some time.   It's a wonderful time!

THANK YOU.

Deb

The week started out a bit hectic but we settled in quickly.  Only a few kids returned from last year because of age.  We had a lot of little ones this year.  Their breezers looked like pants!

The kids did real well in the classrooms too!  Lots of reading and math lessons to get ready for the school year.

This year Sgt. Rob Blue ran the outdoor dryland training!   He was the topic of conversation all week - by the kids and the volunteers.  You see, he runs a kids boot camp...  and an adult boot camp as well.  No mercy and absolutely no quitting!  Sgt. Blue does not have "can't" in his vocabulary.  Indoor dryland was not any easier, just air conditioned!

Once again we had amazing motivational speakers.  Three young men from Rite of Passage came and shared their experiences and challenges.  The kids had lots of questions for the young men.  Alec Wynne talked about the importance of good grades, staying in school and working hard - offering up extra motivation for straight "A's" this year.  Trey Baker had the kids out of their seats with a fun game showing many parts of a team.

The week ended with the "Big Game!"  The scores were high on both sides but the away jerseys' won.  The kids wore real Avalanche jerseys with "Miracles" printed on the back.  We ended the week with excitement and joy, handing out trophies and goody bags.  The drivers' gave the girls red roses.

It was a great week for all.  We can't wait until next year!!!

I'll keep you posted on upcoming events and next years' camp week as soon as we know.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, All.

All the best,

Deb
