Greetings!

It is hard to believe we are just around the corner from a new school year. We are excited to have our very first senior class! Many of these students started with us in seventh grade in the fall of 2007 when VCS first opened its doors! Now, six years later, we are on the verge of breaking ground on the first phase of our permanent building!  On September 10, 2012 we will be coming together as a whole school and community to mark this milestone in the history of VCS.

As is tradition, you and your family are invited to attend our 6th Annual "Meet the Teacher Night" on Monday, August 20th.  All students are invited to "drop in" during the event and meet their teacher, drop off supplies, and meet new and returning friends. Middle and High School students need to pick up their schedules and receive advisory assignments. Tables will be located at the entrance of Vision Way.

Art courses have a $20 materials fee.  No other fees are associated with secondary courses. Students interested in a STUDENT ACTIVITY card will need to pay an additional $24.  These fees may be paid in building M in room M4.  All questions about and pre-payments for the lunch program may be directed to Mrs. Knapp from 2-7 p.m. in the lunchroom.

Students taking dual credit courses will receive information about course fee amounts, due dates, and scholarship information from their teacher(s) in September.

**High School students taking Marine Science are required to purchase, Essentials of Oceanography written by Tom Garrison. This must be the 5th Edition. Students need to order the book so that it arrives prior to school starting. No other books need to be purchased for high school or college courses.

Monday, August 20th "Meet the Teacher" times

K-6th grade are invited to drop in from 2 -5 p.m.

7th-8th grade students and parents are invited to drop in from 3-6 p.m.

9th-12th grade students and parents are invited to drop in from 4- 7 p.m.

Parking will be a challenge.  Just one year left until we get our AMAZING new parking lot! Please make sure you do not block a driveway or fire hydrant if parking in the nearby subdivision during school events. Please park facing the correct way on all roads in the local subdivisions. This will assist in keeping the peace with our neighbors and preventing anyone from receiving tickets. J

I look forward to seeing each of you on August 20, 2012.

Mrs. OldenKamp

DINNER & DESSERT AT "MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT":

As you meet your teachers and find your desks, lockers, and classes, you can also support two exciting events coming later in the year. The Canyon County Sunrise Rotary will be on campus from 4:30-7:00p.m., selling hotdogs, drinks, and chips to help VCS raise money for this year's R.A.D. program and the very first senior class trip. We look forward to seeing you and getting ready to start a new and exciting year! Meal tickets will be sold for $5. Families may also purchase a dessert from the bake sale hosted by the senior class!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL:

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IS TUESDAY, AUGUST 21st from 8:15 a.m. - 3:10 p.m.  Students may be on the school grounds starting at 7:45 a.m. daily. Students must be picked up by 3:30 at the latest.

KINDERGARTEN FIRST DAY - Friday, August 24, 2012.

SAT PREP CLASS

VCS is proud to offer our first IEN teleconferencing SAT prep class from 7 a.m. -8 a.m. starting August 27th. This class will meet on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for four weeks. The school will be paying the $25 fee for this class. We only have ten available slots. The course will be offered on a "first come - first serve" basis to enrolled VCS juniors or seniors. Parents or students must e-mail Mrs. OldenKamp at wendyoldenkamp@visioncsd.org to register.

HOT LUNCHES

The Hot Lunch free/reduced applications for school year 2012-2013 are now available on our website under "VCS News". They are available in both English and in Spanish. All applications must be submitted to the school office no later than Monday, August 13, 2012 in order to be approved prior to the school year starting. All applications received after August 13th may take up to 10 business days to be approved.

Our lunches are catered and brought in by Oasis Food Service. The lunches adhere to the NSLP guidelines. Because we do not have a kitchen at the school, it is necessary to pre-order lunches, even if you qualify for free lunches.

All Lunches are ordered using orderlunches.com website. You can start ordering lunches for your children starting August 12th through August 21st. The window to order lunches is the same every month - the 12th - 22nd of the month prior. However, since school is beginning August 21st, you will need to have your orders placed for two weeks in August by August 20th. September lunches will need to be placed by August 22nd. For August lunches, payment must be received by August 20th. For September lunches, payment must be received by August 30th.

Cost for lunches are $2.85/regular price or $0.75/reduced price. You may also have the option of ordering a-la-carte milk at $0.40/day.

For those parents who are new to our school, you will need to register on the orderlunches.com website. It is a very user-friendly website. To set up an account, you will need to follow these simple instructions:

Click on "register"

Enter the school password which is vcs177

Follow the prompts to enter yours and your children's information

Remember you need to order August lunches by August 20th and order September lunches by August 22nd.

Reminder: If your child is going to be tardy, please contact the office by 8:30 a.m. If you do not, we will assume your child will be absent, and will cancel the hot lunch.

If you have any questions, please email sheree.knapp@visioncsd.net or call the school office 208-455-9220.
