ADDITIONAL CONCURRENT AP AND COLLEGE CREDIT COURSES AT VCS!

In addition to your high school student's 2012-2013 schedule, consider the following two options for additional INTERACTIVE TELECONFERENCING courses. These courses are going to be offered in the lunch room (M4) through the Idaho Education Network (IEN). If your student is interested in one, or both of these courses, please contact Mrs. Lair (erinlair@visioncsd.org) by July 13. We will have to have a minimum number to offer the classes.

Honors European Literature & History - This course is taught by Coeur d'Alene Academy Teachers while students are at VCS interacting with students and teachers through a teleconferencing network!
This is a two-course pair that is recommended to be taken together (each of the courses could be taken separately if you so choose).
AP European History* M/W/F                                                                7-7:55am
Honors European Lit  T/TH/F                                                                 7-7:55am
Both courses are full-year 2 credit classes (one per semester) that exceed state standards for their curricular areas. All classes will be blended- meaning there will be an on-line component in addition to the IEN. They recommend that students take the History and English classes in pairs. It's not required, but the teachers will be taking a team approach to each area and will combine classes on Fridays for an enriched experience.
(CDA may charge a nominal fee for these courses- TBD)

*AP: Advance Placement. Each course is developed by a committee composed of college faculty and AP teachers, and covers the breadth of information, skills, and assignments found in the corresponding college course. The AP Examinations are administered each year in May and represent the culmination of college-level work in a given discipline in a secondary school setting. Rigorously developed by committees of college and AP high school faculty, the AP Exams test students' ability to perform at a college level. Students who perform well can receive course credit and/or advanced standing at thousands of universities worldwide. Visit apcentral.collegeboard.com for more information on AP courses.

Geology 101 - Concurrent College Credit through College of Southern Idaho via the IEN interactive teleconferencing taught by College of Southern Idaho professors and supervised by VCS staff!
Monday thru Thursday            3:15-4:15 in room M4 at VCS

This course investigates the composition of the Earth and the external and internal processes that shape it. Within the context of plate tectonics, it explores the origins of rocks and minerals and dynamic processes such as volcanic and magmatic activity, seismicity, and crustal deformation that are driven by the continual release of the Earth's internal heat. It also examines how air, wind, water, and ice move in response to gravity and energy from the Sun, sculpting Earth's surface by eroding, transporting, and depositing rock materials.

** This course is a full-year 2 credit high school class (one per semester). Additionally, there are 4 college credits available through CSI. Dual credit costs apply ($65/ credit).
