Days off in October
Our school will be closed on October 14th through October 21st. School will resume on Monday, October 24th. We hope your family will enjoy this time off together.

Parent/Teacher Conference Schedule:
Kindergarten, first, and second grade teachers will be setting up a parent-teacher conference with each family.
3rd-11th grade parents will have the following schedule:
October 19, 2011:
4:00-7:00 p.m. Drop-in Student Led Conferences 3-6th in their classrooms/ 7-11th in M4
7:00-8:00 p.m. Title 1 Informational Meeting for grades K-5th in room M4.
October 20, 2011:
8:00a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Scheduled Parent/Teacher Conferences 3-6th grades in the student's classroom/ 7-11th in M4.
8:00-9:00 p.m. Title 1 Informational Meeting for grades 6-11th in room M4.
If you would like to schedule a conference with your child's teacher and have not heard from them by Monday, October 17th at noon, please send an e-mail requesting a conference.
K-5th grade ART: parents are encouraged to visit the lunchroom throughout the year to see your student's art work displayed! Parents may walk through the lunchroom to view this art from 3-4 p.m. on October 19th, from 12-2 p.m. on October 20th, and from 5-6 p.m. on October 20th.

BOOK FAIR:
We are so excited to announce Vision Charter School's SECOND BOOK FAIR!!The Scholastic Book Fair will be during Parent Teacher Conferences next week in room M2:
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19TH from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
AND
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20TH from 8:00 a.m. TO 8:00 p.m.
This is a great way to help our classrooms earn FREE books. The school will receive ½ of the sales in FREE books and the money will be divided equally among every classroom to help build up our children's libraries. What a fun way to buy books for your children AND help VCS build our libraries!

Literary Celebration Guidelines - October 31, 2011
K-5th will be celebrating with activities in their classroom and costumes that depict characters from "Nursery Rhymes, Fairy Tales, and Fables".
Your child's teacher will communicate specifics of the upcoming celebrations, times, and costume specifics that apply to your child's particular grade level. You are encouraged to check the blog or e-mail the teacher for any specific questions.
6th-11th grade students may wear costumes that depict "Myths, Folktales, Legends, or Fables". Celebrations will occur in the students' advisory period on October 31st.
All modesty dress-code standards still apply. Prohibited items include: violent attire, fake blood, real or fake weapons.

CLOTHING:
PLEASE place your child's name on the label of his/her jackets, coats, lunchboxes, and sweatshirts. This will allow us to return their clothing or belongings to them before donating Lost and Found items.
LOST AND FOUND: The Lost and Found has moved to the cafeteria. We have three buckets of clothing, books, and lunchboxes in addition to clothes hung up on hangers to encourage all students to claim their clothes. All clothes will be donated on October 21st of this month. We will lay out the clothes this week and have all the students walk through and claim their clothes. Please feel free to come over to M4 during conferences and look through the Lost and Found items to claim your children's belongings. The Lost in Found is just inside the M3 door.

The 2011 Halloween Social is coming soon!
It is going to be held on Friday, October 28th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. for middle school students and 7:30-10:00 p.m. for high school students at Vision Charter School. We will feature a scare room, lots of dancing, and refreshments prepared by our own Chef Leavell. The menu offerings include chili, bread, and a variety of beverages. To get in for free, just show your Vision Charter activity card at the door. If you have not purchased an activity card, tickets will be available at lunch (October 24-28) and at the door for $7 each. Costumes are completely optional, and if you choose to dress up, your costume cannot include blood or any weapons. This fall social is for VCS students only, so there are no outside guests allowed.
*****Parents must sign middle school kids in and out. If they will be traveling home with friends they must have a note.
*****High school students will be allowed to sign themselves in and out of the social, to get home however they choose. Once a student leaves the social, they will not be allowed back in to the social.

PSAT:
ALL students who have paid for and secured their PSAT spot will be testing on Saturday, October 15th from 9-12:15. Students must be in room G2 and ready to start by 9 a.m. sharp. The room will open by 8:45 a.m. for students to come in and get set up. Students should bring two #2 pencils, a scientific or graphing calculator, student ID or social security (optional), e-mail address (optional).

November 8, 7:00 p.m. in room M) - kindergarten and first grade perform Aesop's Adventures
November 14, 7:00 p.m. at the Nampa Civic Center - Musical Theatre will perform "We the People". We will be honoring those currently serving and who have served in our nation's military. Please invite those you know to attend. Individual tickets will be $4, and family tickets will be $10 per family.
December 13 - Elementary annual Christmas program
December 15 - VCS first annual Secondary Christmas program

PFA CORNER: Schwan's Fundraiser: The packets with ordering forms and fundraising information will be handed out to students Oct. 26. The Orders will need to be turned in with payment on the 8th of November. Pick- up Date for food will be Tuesday November 15, in the Lunch room at Vision from 4-7 pm. This is a great fundraiser and everyone is encouraged to participate. Additional Schwan's products will be available to purchase for pre-holiday shopping at time of pick-up. Students will be provided with personal selling incentives to increase sales such as receiving specific items for selling a particular number of items or amount of sales. ***If you are able to help get orders ready on the pick-up date contact Russ Nelson 350-0894.
Spirit Wear: Silk screened Spirit Wear will be made available for order during the month of December in time for Christmas.
BOX TOPS:The PFA is encouraging students to collect box tops by sending home a sheet with a baggie attached to collect twenty box tops! Students who turn in 20 Box Tops will be entered in the drawing for every completed sheet you turn in! Please e-mail Cheryl Clark at im1busymom@cableone.net for questions regarding this contest. Students may turn the box tops in to their homeroom teacher. The contest will run from 10/10-10/25/11. The drawing will take place on 10/31/11.
