Introduction to basket weaving:

Did you know we have an author and skilled basket weaver teaching a Saturday Sampler this Saturday, March 3rd?
 Basket Tote

Debra Hammond has been weaving baskets since 1990 and next Saturday you can learn to make this basket.

She has run basketry workshops for the North Carolina Basketmakers Association and teaches basket making out of her studio in East Earl, Pennsylvania.

Debra's book is in our boutique with some of her beautiful baskets...

The art of basket making is described in detail for the beginning or experienced weaver. Complete with a Basket Bookchapter on tools and materials to get started, this easy-to-use guide explains and illustrates how to weave reed, incorporate premade handles, finish basket rims, and a host of other basket-making techniques. It also contains a chapter on dyeing reed, a simple and cost-effective way to obtain desired colors and results. Complete instructions for making a Flared Bun Basket, Small Market Basket, Napkin Basket, and Easter Basket teach necessary skills.

Don't miss this opportunity to sample a new skill while getting to know Debra.  Saturday Sampler classes are small and intimate giving you time to learn the skill and to get to know the teaching artist.

We'll put the coffee and tea on and look forward to meeting you too!

Art Off The Wall

Albright College design and merchandising students occupy our gallery until March 17th.  The students were delighted to have a 'real world' space to test themselves.  There's some truly clever merchandising ideas.

Hat's off to Albright Professor Connie H. Horacek, who organized the show.  The students work will be available for viewing until mid-March.   The students garments and art were also merchandised by the students in Horacek's Spring 2012 Visual Merchandising and Design class.
