Embroidery

Embroidered embellishments on our clothing can be seen everywhere these days.
And..maybe you've never embroidered or maybe its been so long you've forgotten.

Join Kachina Martin for this Saturday Sampler as she shares an updated view towards a traditional  art form.

Pardon our appearance as we change our clothes...

Handmade Holidays2
"Felt So Good" (a superb exhibit of felt) ended on Saturday.  Now it's time to pack it up and begin intake for Handmade Holidays.

OOOOOh.....this really is the best part of the job.

The gallery will be closed however until the opening on December 3rd.

K. Pannepacker
This is Kathryn Pannepacker working on the installation of the Finding Home mural in Philadelphia.  Kathryn is a fiber artist with a heart of gold who has invested a lot of her energies and art into promoting awareness of and dignity for the homeless.

The dedication of this mural is this week and I wanted to help spread the word.  The next article below is Kathryn's own words and invitation.  Who better to tell you a little about the project in a few words?

Hope you have a great week,
Rebekah

FINDING HOME mural dedication

13th & Ludlow, Philadelphia

this Thursday, Nov 10th, 5-7p.m

finding homemural total

yes, crazy true- there are thousands of homeless (and in transition) men, women & children in Philadelphia...

-this Mural Arts Program project, FINDING HOME, started two plus years ago in public spaces and shelters around the city where we literally wove the 'mats' that became the canvas for a portion of the mural...

-weaving (over, under, over under) was the metaphor and artistic process for understanding the contrasts in life's journeys...

-the mission: to shed light to issues around homelessness; to break down stigma; to bring people together with and without a home, to see in one another that of 'you could be my mother, father, sister, brother, son, daughter'...

- from these creative workshops (base was at the former 'Cafe' @ 8th & Arch St), and after the mural was installed and project finished, a few gathered to continue as "Arts Street Textile Studio (ASTS): handmade with the homeless" (find us on facebook),
a creative studio in Philadelphia with those who are homeless & w/home, folks in transition, in recovery or otherwise, to learn creative textile skills & make, exhibit & sell their work for income...

-please come to this very special mural dedication to lend your voice and support, to learn more about what's going on & wrong, & to be part of the solutions for change...

-let's gather at 13th & Ludlow on Thursday, November 10th @ 5p.m!

-bring a coat to add to the winter coat drive

-buy a scarf from a weaver from ASTS

-support MAP and art for social change!

thanks-hope to see you... and please pass the word along! (excuse me if you are receiving this announcement in duplicate!)

peace-
