some things looming presents:

Felt So Good

September 10 to Nov 5, 2011

Opening Reception: Saturday, 9/10/11

1:00 to 4:00 PM

It seems it's going to be a busy weekend coming up for everyone.  I've heard soccer tournaments , class reunions and more are scheduled for Saturday.  Well, life is full for lots of us....but, hey,  that sure beats being bored any day!

Don't let that busy schedule stop you from popping in to see this beautiful marriage of felt and art.   These works are intricate and amazing.  It's an hour or so that you won't regret.

Dans Restaurant owners, Bill and Monir join us for the opening of "Felt So Good".  See the article I've included on their weeknight specials.   Make sure you add this wonderful restaurant to your list of Reading favorite spots to eat.  Mention you read about them or met them through our gallery when you go for dinner or perhaps a Sunday brunch.  I've heard you might just get some special treatment. ;)

Our first Saturday Sampler starts this week with Elizabeth Zipay giving us a chance to sample tatting.  I had a lot of fun last winter when I took the class.  But..I didn't practice so now I'm thinking I might take it again.

The boutique re-opens on Saturday too.  Keep it in mind for when the gift needs to be truly special.

See you Saturday,

Rebekah and Melanie

Elizabeth joins us Saturday to teach the basics of tatting.  With lots of practice, perhaps you could learn to make beautiful crafted jewelry like we've pictured here.

From Elizabeth's web site:

My purpose is to create something that people want to wear and display because they find it beautiful and fashionable - but also because they recognize the piece as this wonderful lost art.  Tatting reminds them of days gone by, of their moms and grandmas and elderly neighborElizabeths with lace-making fingers flying, and it has a simple and basic beauty all its own.  From my fingers emerge lace necklaces, bracelets, barrettes, pins, and earrings, and as I tie the knots, it is my hope my tatted jewelry ties the past to the present.

Tatting is a form of lace-making consisting of knotting threads into rings and chains, forming beautiful patterns of open and closed space. It is created by using thread, your hands, and a tool called a shuttle.  Traditionally, tatting has been used for practical items like baby bonnets, table doilies, and lace edgings on various linens.  I wanted to use my tatting in a fresh and modern way, but one that would still allow it to be displayed and easily identified as this beautiful old craft.  My tatted lace jewelry developed as I searched for a contemporary expression of this classic form of lace-making.
