Knotted Beads - April 16th
Square Knot Beads

Macrame isn't just for plant hangers, friendship bracelets, or large hammocks anymore!   Using a basic knot, we'll make lovely beads that can be used in handmade jewelry.

Students will use thread to knot around a wire core to create their beads. Students will walk away with the materials to create 5 beads.

Two Sessions of Shibori
April 30, 2011
Back by popular demand.... Kachina Martin presents two sessions on shibori.

 shibori
Shibori is an ancient Japanese dying process that uses twisting, stitching, pulling, and binding of fabric to create texture and pattern with color.

Session 1:
You create the pattern with binding and stitching, and the artist will dye and launder your work.  You will return to carefully open your samples and ideas will be discussed for how to use these beautiful, uniquely patterned fabrics.

Session 2:
We will be working with a variety of more advanced techniques to create intricately patterned fabric samples through stitching, pulling, and binding.  You will also have the opportunity to create a wearable work of art - a silk scarf!  The instructor will dye and launder your stitched pieces, and you will return a second time to carefully unbind and show off your work.
