Did you know we just celebrated our first anniversary this March?

Our sincere thanks to each and everyone of you who have supported and used the community this past year.  We exist for you and because of you.

SIZE MATTERS:
We end the Exhibit year with our challenge to work within a 12" size constraint.  We've  received many wonderful entries for Size Matters.  Submissions are from all over the country and as far away as Qatar.

Stay tuned as this show unfolds.  We're planning some special treats for Mom at the Saturday, May 7th opening (Sunday is Mother's Day) and ....fingers crossed we'll be outside on our newly built patio in the courtyard. (Rain, rain, go away.  Come again some other day.....imagine us humming)

With our humble thanks for your interest and support,

Rebekah and Melanie

Fabric Beads

Fabric Beads

In this week's sampler, we make fabric beads from scraps of hand dyed fabric.  Students will have enough time to make 4 or 5 beads and some materials to make more on their own later.

In the photo below is a piece I made from the green beads above.

Have some fabric you love?

Students are welcome to bring small scraps of a favorite fabric in lieu of what is supplied.

I wish this was a better close up but perhaps it'll inspire you as to what you can do with the beads once made.

I chose to string my beads together using a wire wrapping technique.

Knotted gemstones
Why Knot?

You might be asking, why knot when I can string the beads together ever so simply?

  1. One important benefit of knotting a strand is to provide safety to your precious pearls or gemstones.  When a knotted strand breaks, the most you will generally lose is one or two pearls or gemstones.  Contrast that with your experience of breaking a strand and chasing the beads all over the floor.
  2. The second reason is the drape and feel the piece will have due to the thread.
  3. Lastly, because it's a finishing technique used on higher end jewelry, you'll create a piece that will be more valuable.

In this class you will learn how to use the knotting tool and have the materials to knot and finish either the pink or black gemstone necklace.
