Tunisian Crochet
Saturday Samplers
March 5th - 10:00 am | |
Tunisian crochet, also known as Afghan crochet, uses an elongated hook, often with a stopper on the handle end. It is sometimes considered to be a mixture of crocheting and knitting. We'll learn the simple tunisian stitch and one variation of the same stitch, the knit stitch.
Students will get a pattern to make these fingerless gloves, a hook and yarn.

Daily Fiber Intake
Opening Reception: 1:00 - 3:00 pm
March 13, 2011
Kutztown University's noted fiber arts program will be featured in "Daily Fiber Intake," the next show at 'some things looming' (www.somethingslooming.com) Fiber Arts Gallery and Studio, 526 Washington Street, Reading. The venue to showcase the next generation of textile and fiber artists runs from March 13 through April 17, 2011.
The opening reception is scheduled on Sunday, March 13 from 1 to 3 p.m. attended by fiber arts alumni and current students in the show and featuring medieval and Renaissance music by Angelica Consort.
Curator Barbara Schulman, KU Professor of Art and head of the university's Fiber Arts Program, said the exhibit includes the work of 15 current and previous students of her program, part of the university's School of Visual and Performing Arts.
"Students work in traditional textile techniques and processes, sparked by contemporary art world concepts and approaches, including embroidery, weaving, felt making, screen printing, netting, knotting, dyeing and invented personal techniques. These students are achievers; many chose a double major combining art education and crafts, which takes five years to finish and helps make them more employable as public school art teachers,' Schulman said.
Four of the alumni entered in the show-Lindsay Ketterer Gates (1996), Rachel Chambers (2004), Tristyn Albright (2009) and Liz Hamilton (2010)-won the university's J. Allen Pawling Crafts Memorial Award.

Saturday Sampler Facts!! | |
Our promise to you?
'some things looming' will NEVER cancel a 'sampler' due to low class registration. What does that mean to you? It means you can absolutely put this a class in permanent ink on your calendar.
We've heard the frustration where a favorite class got cancelled on you at the last minute. We want you to absolutely know that isn't going to happen here.
Will it be awkward if I'm the only one there? Oh. My. No! We'll just have great fun with a little one on one time. Ask around. It's happened from time to time.
Not good at planning? Don't have a lot of free time? We designed 'saturday samplers' for you. You can save a little if you plan, but you don't have to. If a class is popular, you might not make it in due to class size. Coming early for a class or calling on Saturday morning to secure your spot is a great idea. Popular classes will most likely have a second session on the same day so you should always assume you have a good shot at getting what you want. |
