Will Our Children Be Good Stewards?
The answer relies largely on the level of conversation we foster in and through our faith communities. If we help children discover the interdependence between faith and money, we may help multiple generations in unexpected ways.
Here are possible starting points for you and your family:
· Examine your personal spending plan.
· Teach children Jesus' messages about money and possessions.
· Teach teenagers about the importance of giving and saving and the impact of consumer debt.
· Recycle. One idea is to let children use old items to create new art projects.
· Establish a clear delineation between "wants" and "needs."
· Teach children to write thank-you notes for gifts. Connect giving and receiving to expressions of thankfulness and caring.
· Create mission certificates to honor someone instead of giving a store-bought present.
· Encourage children to participate in weekly and special offerings and other charitable
giving opportunities.
· Establish savings accounts for the children in your life and regularly reinforce for them the
discipline of saving money.
· Become involved in community outreach, service projects and mission programs.
· Worship and pray regularly.
