"A Scout Is Cheerful" "A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent." The Scout Law "A cheerful heart is a good medicine, but a downcast spirit dries up the bones." (Proverbs 17:22) cheerful \chir-fəl\:adj. - full of good spirits; full of gladness Have you ever known someone who is always in a bad mood? Every time you see him, he is complaining about something, or he is upset about someone. The Disney character "Grumpy" comes to mind. Or the movie "Grumpy Old Men." Always fussy, always negative, always angry. You see her coming and you head the other way. She leaves you a message and you don't want to call her back. You know the one. But then there's the happy one. The glad one. The cheerful one. Bursting with glee and almost always smiling, she enters the room like a soft breeze in April. His name appears on the screen of your cell phone and you don't hit "ignore." You're drawn to her at a party or gathering at church. You always love to listen to him no matter what he wants to talk about. In fact, when you're around her, you find your own heart filled with gladness. You're energized, more light-hearted, and in good spirits yourself. The wisdom of Proverbs is this: "a cheerful heart is a good medicine..." (Pr. 17:22). And you've found that in the presence of a cheerful person, your heart is not so heavy, your worries seem to fade away, and your face begins to brighten. You've caught yourself smiling too. When you walk into a room, how do others see you? Grumpy or glad? Chapped or cheerful? Frigid wind or soft breeze? I'll see you at the "cheerful" place this Sunday, Flint

mission possible kids camp

A group of 17 children, ages 9-11, spent a week doing mission and service work for others through the Mission Possible Kids Camp. The projects they did were: *Made and delivered gift bags to the VOA GAPS home and Oakwood Home for Women *Made and delivered cookies in appreciation of local firefighters and city workers who collect garbage *Made and delivered patriotic gifts to the VOA Transitional Home for Veterans near the church *Visited and learned about our Community Garden and our Noel Neighborhood Ministries Food Pantry *Visited and worked at the Pool of Siloam, a free medical clinic run by Grace Community UMC *Made and delivered sack meals for the homeless at Hope House, a drop-in center for homeless people The children learned about issues such as homelessness, poverty, lack of medical care, mental illness, substance abuse, veterans' needs and good nutrition. Most importantly, they learned about the value of helping others and our calling as Christians to serve those in need. Many of those participating were promoted to Special Agent First Class and Master Agent First Class in light of the number of mission projects they completed during the past year and during the camp. Mission Possible Kids is a year-round program for children grades 3 - 5. For more information, contact Mary Green at mgreen@noelumc.org or (318) 221-5207.
