What the New Year brings
I want to encourage you as we look back on another year and anticipate what the New Year brings to commit every area of life to God. Trust in Him and give all that you have in response to His grace. Evaluate your Christian growth in how you love God and others and be reminded that we stand firm on His gospel, on the finished work of Christ. God is doing a work in those who believe transforming them into the likeness of Christ and it is a joy to be His child. It is an exciting time at Wellington beginning our tenth year at this location. We remain committed to the preaching and teaching of God's word verse by verse. We ask that you continue to pray for our leaders as we seek God's guidance to move forward with new ministries, missions, classes, fellowship opportunity and community involvement. We hope to be a light for Lexington and the surrounding counties proclaiming the gospel and impacting people's hearts for God. Wellington is a body of believers with Christ as our Head and depends on each member fulfilling his/her role to be effective. We desire to be good stewards of what the Lord has entrusted to us and to be unashamed evangelists of the gospel "for it is the power of God unto salvation for all those who believe...for in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith (Rom. 1:16, 17) We have been given an amazing gift, the gospel, and Wellington's ministry is not only to you, but to this community and beyond. An effort like this requires the whole body to function. We are not needing volunteers, but rather faithful followers who are committed to using their gifts and their God-given resources for "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows" (James 1:17). We have been called to a great task and it is through the word of God that we are being equipped for every good work (Eph. 4:11-16). So be encouraged to give of what has been given to you. Serve faithfully in the areas which God has gifted you. Seek hard after the word of God. "Continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of...for all Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work" (2 Tim. 3). Honor the Lord with your first fruits (Matt. 6:21). Ask yourself, do I really have a heart for God? In our study of James, we learn that faith without works is dead. Let us be a church that is alive being known for our love for one another, our generosity in giving and our pursuit of holiness as we continue to learn and live God's word verse by verse being transformed by His power. May we be a church that prays confidently that the Lord will accomplish His plans and purposes not only in our lives but in this community through us.
