Dear Wellington,
As we continue to study through the book of James we are confronted with living out our faith. "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." (James 1:22) "But someone may well say, 'You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without works, and I will show you my faith by my works.'" (James 2:18)
I want to encourage you to pursue holiness like Paul, who was reminded of the gospel daily when he said "The life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me." (Galatians 2:20) For it is only through Christ that we have access to God and are made able, motivated by gratitude, to become holy as He is holy. (Romans 8) We further learn that even our spiritual sacrifices are only made acceptable through Christ (1 Peter 2:4-5).
So, as you become a doer of the word, whether it is in your own spiritual growth, sacrificial giving, or impacting others for the sake of Christ be reminded each day that it is because of Christ's obedience and suffering death that we have received the grace of God and it is to Him and His performance that we must look daily for acceptance before God.

New classes begin this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. |
We are offering two classes this session
Anchored in the Grace of God.
We know we need grace. Without it we'd never come to Christ in the first place. But being a Christian is more than just coming to Christ. It's about growing and becoming more like Jesus-it's about pursuing holiness. The pursuit of holiness must be anchored in the grace of God; otherwise it is doomed to failure. Grace is at the heart of the gospel, and without a clear understanding of the gospel and grace we can easily slip into a performance-based lifestyle that bears little resemblance to what the gospel offers us. If you've ever struggled with what your role is and what role God takes in your growth as a Christian, this class will comfort and challenge you to learn to rest in Christ while vigorously pursuing a life of holiness.
God's Word Says...
Answers from Scripture
It is Q and A format whereby our pastor, Wayne Holcomb, will be answering questions that have been submitted via the Internet, communication card, email, etc. We will also take new questions as the class progresses. If you would like to have a biblical text explained or a practical application of scripture, a cultural matter, or personal issue addressed, you will be able to submit your question in writing and have it answered the following week.
This is a great opportunity for all ages, but I think college students and young adults will find it particularly helpful. Below is a sampling of questions that will be addressed. 1) Do you believe in ghosts? 2) Is psychology a religion? 3) Is it common for Christians to backslide? What about those text that teach you can fall from grace? 4) How can I best witness to the non-believing members of my family? 5) Why do Catholics hold Mary in such high esteem? 6) How can I best witness to my friends about the subject of homosexuality? 7) If a person is born in another country and never hears the gospel, will they go to hell? 8) Are the stories about Adam/Eve; Noah and the ark, Moses and the Red Sea; Jonah and the whale myths the Lord used to teach specific lessons? 9) Where does the Bible talk about the fall of Satan and the angelic realm? 10) What are your views about cremation? |

Angel Tree |
We still have 10 angels left for Christmas. These angel gifts are for children at Harrison Elementary, located in the inner city of Lexington. Laura VanEpps is the social worker there and she sees the kind of poverty these children experience daily. If you can help, please choose an angel, purchase the gift, wrap it, tape the angel on the outside of the package, and return it to church by December 5.
