I feel very welcomed with the servers when I come to just have a drink or to eat sushi and some dishes from the menu and a good selection of sake. the good thing about the bar section is even the bar section you can order full menu. Their selection of the sake is excellent. A hundred of good sake. You can have choice of reasonable to rare and great sake. the presentations of the dishes are very beautiful, and good portions. agura                                                                            by Noriko Toyosato
I visited "AGURA" on La Cienega in West Hollywood that opened last year on November 9, fast becoming popular because of their large Buddha statue sitting squarely in their restaurant.
I had the valet park my car. The appearance of this restaurant is different from the various glitzy restaurants on La Cienega. The restaurant appears like a quiet residence, or more like a solemn structure. The entrance is not located at the front, but back behind an alley along the side wall. The sliding door at the entrance is rare. The restaurant is designed like a hidden den in the back alleys of Kyoto.
I was greeted by the broad friendly smiles of two hosts, who seated us at the dining room. To the left of the reception area is a comfortable lounge with a sofa and a bar counter to the right. When looking into the glass bar counter, several layers of antique transom windows are displayed with an appearance like a kaleidoscope.
Stepping into the dining room, a gorgeous chandelier is immediately visible. The white walls are ornately decorated with gorgeous gold that matches the tables and chairs, very glitzy like Hollywood! Looking to the left, a Buddha is sitting behind the sushi bar.
The Buddha is sitting quietly and cross-legged, basking in golden light. The 13-feet magnificent Buddha is sitting on behind the sushi bar.
Strangely, I don't find it odd most likely because I attribute it to the Hollywood culture
sushi sake front
Behind the dining room are three Japanese-style private rooms with a capacity of six diners. Patio seats angled at 45 degrees are spread out from the south side to the front, with numerous hannya masks and the surrounding areas fantastically lit up.
We asked the manager Kiyoshi Sagawa for his recommended dishes for tasting, to which he replied, "Try anything you like." His moral confidence in all of the dishes offered was impressive.
The menu is filled with varieties of French style Japanese fusion dishes consistent with the ambiance of the restaurant. "Not only do we offer fusion dishes, but our sushi is Edo-style and authentic," said Sagawa. We followed his recommendation and finished off our meal with sushi.
Nutritional Information

 How American get the food and nutrition information.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
According to ADA (American Dietetics Association)'s survey, Americans get most of their food and nutrition information from television and magazines. That is not to say, however, that these popular sources are also people's most credible sources of information.
Popularity of Sources:
By a wide margin, the most popular sources of food and nutrition information were TV (63%, down from 72% in ADA's 2002 survey) and magazines (45%, down from 58% in 2002).
There has been substantial growth in the use of the Internet as a source of information; it is the third most-often named source, replacing newspapers. The Internet was named as a source of food and nutrition information by 24% of respondents - nearly double the 13% who said they got information from the Internet in 2002.
Newspapers experienced a large drop in popularity since 2002, from 33% to 19%. Almost every leading source of information has dropped in popularity in the past six years except for the Internet.
ADA's survey found use of the Internet to find food and nutrition information varies widely with age: from 42% of adults age 25-34, down to just 5% of those 65 and over.
Credibility of Sources:
Survey respondents were read a list of sources and asked how credible they believe each one is. At 78%,
registered dietitians were listed as the most credible. RDs were considered especially credible by younger adults and people with the most education. Doctors were named as credible sources by 61% and nurses by 57%.
