Visual Arts Students Collaborate and Create
high art
Team leader Jesse Schissler, '11 and the MHS entry in High Art, 2011

Mansfield HS art students created a collaborative sculpture for the annual High Art Exhibit at the Attleboro Arts Museum.  This is an installation art exhibit that requires students to find a visual solution or
interpretation for the theme of the year.  This year the theme was "Blurring the
Lines".  Ten high schools from our area submitted collaborative installations. This is a juried show and our piece took second place - the highest we've ever achieved at the exhibit.  The piece was an foam sculpture of organic meandering  lines that represent the uncertainty of our future.  The juror, Jan Nareski Goba, Exhibit Curator of Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, commented that our sculpture had, "meaningful and dramatic energy Zen... depth and dimension combined with a a mlodic visulaization... impressive innovation of materials execution." We are hoping for a permanent home in the school for this beautiful sculpture when the exhibit is over later this week.

We're also pleased to announce that MHS juniors Sara Yelle and Jonathan Good were selected for the 2011 Art All-States in Worcester.  This is the first year Mansfield has had two students accepted in the weekend-long program that previews an art school environment.  Art All-States also provides students with the opportunity to work with professional artists on collaborative pieces. Students spend the night at Clark University and participate in workshops at the Worcester Art Museum.  Hundreds of students apply and only a fraction are accepted, so congratulations to Sarah and Johnny!

Project Teammate Caps Yet Another Great Year

 breakfast

On Thursday June 3rd  we had our 11th annual Project Teammate Breakfast.  Families, Administration, teachers and friends joined together for speeches, breakfast, and a slideshow.  The students did a tremendous job organizing and helping to set up the event. Seniors and other students made heartfelt speeches about their experiences and favorite parts of Project Teammate. Various staff, administration, local companies, and students were recognized for their hard work that helps make Project teammate the success it is. Project Teammate would like to thank Aunt Aleda's bakery and parents for their donations of items for the breakfast.
