Support the Corey Shea Flagpole Fundraiser on May 6

corey sheaThe Mansfield Public Schools are joining the fundraising campaign for a new South Common flagpole.

The Manfield School Committee has recently approved holding a Corey Shea Day at each school, in honor of the late Mansfield High School graduate (Class of '05) and Army specialist who the new flagpole will be named after. At MHS all students and staff members are asked to bring "up to" $1 each on Friday, May 6 to donate to the flagpole fund.  This Friday a homeroom will be held where all funds will be collected.  If every student and staff member donates just $1, over $1600 may be collected for this very worthwhile fundraiser!

In addition to our schools, the Mansfield Elks have announced that they will be donating $1,000 to the fund.
Please remember this fundraiser on Friday!

"Talent 4 A Cure" is Dedicated to Fallon Finegan

hearts for hopeOn Saturday, May 7th at 7pm the student councils of Mansfield, Oliver Ames, Sharon and King Philip High Schools are sponsoring a multi-town high school talent show, called "Talent 4 a Cure," showcasing talent from all four of the schools in an effort to raise funds and awareness for this year's cause: cystic fibrosis.

"Talent 4 a Cure" is being dedicated to Mansfield High School student Fallon Finegan, who lost her battle with CF in August, 2010. In honor of Fallon, all proceeds from the event will be donated to two foundations:  The Hearts for Hope Foundation, created in 2009 to assist families who are battling cystic fibrosis, and to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which works "to assure the development of the means to cure and control cystic fibrosis and to improve the quality of life for those with
the disease."

The event will feature bands, singers, musicians and a wide variety of talent in an "American Idol" type format with performers receiving comments from four judges and cash prizes for the top 3 finishers.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 each and at the door for $15.  The event is expected to sell out and is open to students of any age, adults and the community. To reserve tickets please
contact Oliver Ames teacher Miss Kara Burrage at (508)230-3210 x1653 or via email at OAStuco@gmail.com.  The show takes place May 7th at 7pm in the Oliver Ames High School Auditorium, 100 Lothrop Street, North Easton, MA.

Into the Woods is a thrilling musical written by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim that focuses on the journeys of a group of well-known, timeless fairy tale characters. The plot is centered on a baker (Devin Davies) and his wife (Lindsey White) who desperately wish to have a child, but because of a spell cast on them from the ugly witch (Sarah Shear) who lives next door, they can only reverse the spell by locating four items from the dark woods. Also traveling into the woods, are Little Red Riding Hood (Emily Ruddy), Jack (Alex Fullerton) - from the beanstalk story, and Cinderella (Megan Harney) and her step family. Their individual stories merge to form one tale, full of love, hate, evil witches, vengeful giants, hungry wolves, and the struggle to find happiness. This show is sure to make the audience laugh, cry, scream, and learn a moving lesson about responsibility through the fairy tale characters we thought we knew.  Over ninety students are involved in this production either on stage, backstage, or in the orchestra.  The Mansfield High School Performing Arts Department will be presenting INTO THE WOODS on Friday, May 6th and Saturday, May 7th at 7:30pm, and Sunday May 8 at 2pm in the MHS Barbara Trombley Auditorium.  Tickets are $10 for students and senior citizens, and $13 for adults. Tickets will be available at the door for purchase.

A Friendly Reminder About the Dress Code...

short shorts
Short shorts are not conducive to the learning environment...Really.
With the warmer weather that spring is bringing us, parents and students are reminded of the dress code that is detailed in the MHS Student Handbook.  Specifically, students should not be wearing clothing that is distracting to the point that it interferes with the ability of themselves or other students to take advantage of the educational process.  Students should wear clothing that appropriately covers their shoulders and torsos, and pectoral areas.  "Short shorts" and skirts with revealing hemlines are not acceptable.  Nor are tops that have "spaghetti straps."

Thank you in advance for helping us to ensure a conducive learning environment for all MHS students.
