Mansfield Students Honored at State House

Three Mansfield students were honored at the Massachusetts State House last Friday, March 4 for their work as Green Schools Student Ambassadors. Green Schools is a non-profit organization that is headquartered at Mansfield High School. With over 100 schools in Massachusetts and throughout New England, the group's mission is to create healthier and greener learning environments through education and awareness. As student ambassadors, the students network with 33 other middle and high school students to study and create innnovative green projects.
The Mansfield Student Ambassadors honored by Rep. Jay Barrows and other state dignitaries are: MHS senior Lexie Raczka (also co-president of the Student Ambassadors), QMS 8th grade student Rachel Enzie, and Jordon Jackson 3rd grade student Haley Organ. Congratulations!

Annual College Planning Night is this Wednesday

This Wednesday night, March 9, the MHS Guidance Department will be offering our annual College Planning Night, a workshop for parents, students, and their families at 6:30 pm in the MHS Auditorium. An overview of the college admission process will be discusssed by a panel of admission counselors from Stonehill College, Simmons College, and Dean College. Additionally, Ms. Susan Beard, Director of Financial Aid at Wheaton College, will also present on the financial aid process and filling out the FAFSA form.
This workshop is for all parents and students but is particularly helpful for those of the Class of 2012. All are welcome! |
MHS Students of the Month Named for January

Assistant Principal Mike Connolly has recently announced the MHS Students of the Month for January 2011. MHS Percussion Ensemble is Now Ranked #1

The Mansfield High School Percussion Ensemble has been rehearsing now for over nine months and in the past few weeks has already begun to shine in local and regional competitions. The group is currently undefeated on the season and recently competed in Winter Guard Internationals New England Regional Competition. The Percussion Ensemble was extremely successful, beating six other groups from the East Coast. The Percussion Ensemble won first place in their division with a 92.3, nearly two and a half points ahead of their nearest competitor! The ensemble is currently ranked first in the country in their division. The group will be traveling to Dayton Ohio in April to compete in the Percussion Ensemble World Championships. This is a competition the group has won twice before. You can see the them locally on March 19 when Mansfield High School hosts a NESBA competition that will include nearly 50 schools from around New England competing in color guard and indoor percussion. The competition begins that day at 1pm in the MHS Gymnasium. | |
Girls' Soccer Wins National Academic Award Again

For the 5th straight year, the MHS Varsity Soccer Team has earned the National Team Academic Award from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Each year the NSCAA awards a National Team Academic Award to high school boys' and girls' soccer teams who earn a team GPA of 3.25 or higher. This past year, the MHS girls' team put together a GPA of 3.43. The list of schools that have put together this award may be found by clicking here.

Attention Hornet Hoops Fans!!

The post-season quest for a MIAA Division I South championship and another trip to Boston's TD Garden continues this week for both the boys' and girls' basketball teams. The MIAA has established the following schedule for the semi-final games:
Tonight, 3/7: Boys vs. BC High School, at UMass-Boston at the Clark Athletic Center, 7:00 pm. (Click here for directions.)
Wednesday, 3/9: Girls vs. Newton South HS, at Massasoit Community College, Brockton, 7:45 pm. (Click here for directions.)
Per the MIAA, the entrance fee for the games is $7 for students and $10 for adults. There is also a $6 parking fee in the UMass-Boston lot. Parking is free at Massasoit Community College.
