dr. maruszczakGood Morning!

Welcome to a new work week. I hope last week's winter break proved to be relaxing.

A few things to share:  First, if you have not already heard, this week will mark the addition of the first of two Saturday make-up days due to all of the snow days we have experienced.  Thus, school will be in session for a half day this Saturday, March 5.  School will begin at the regular time and all students will be dismissed at 10:30 am.  For planning purposes, the second Saturday make-up half day will be on April 2.

Second, I would like to invite all parents to the next meeting of the MHS Parent Advisory Council on Monday, March 7 at 7:00 pm in the MHS library.  At this meeting we will brainstorm about future directions of technology integration at MHS.

Last, I would like to recognize and commend all of our student athletes participating in all winter sports.  To say that this season has been an embarrassment of riches would be an understatement!  Here's what our students have accomplished to date:

Girls' Basketball:  Hockomock League (Kelly-Rex Div) Champs, #2 Seed in MIAA Division I South Sectional Tournament

Boys' Basketball:  Hockomock League (Kelly-Rex Div) Champs, #1 Seed in MIAA Division I South Sectional Tournament

Ice Hockey:   Hockomock League (Kelly-Rex Div) Champs, #1 Seed in MIAA Division I South Tournament

Girls' Indoor Track:  Hockomock League Champs, MIAA Division II State Champs, All-State Meet Champs

Boys' Indoor Track:  Hockomock League Champs, MIAA Division II State Champs, All-State Meet Champs

Gymnastics:  Hockomock League (Kelly-Rex Div) Champs, 7th Place in All-State Meet

Wrestling:  MIAA Division I South Sectional Tournament- one champion, nine state meet qualifiers; one MIAA Div I State Tournament Champion

Girls' Swimming:  2nd Place Finish in the Hockomock League (8-1 record), 26th Place in the All-State Meet

Boys' Swimming:  2nd Place Finish in the Hockomock League (8-1 record)

Wow- what success!  We certainly have a lot be proud of in Hornet Nation.  Best of luck to the teams still competing in post-season tournaments!

Have a great week!

From the MHS Guidance Office...

Tina Karidoyanes

As I woke up to a winter wonderland yesterday morning all I could think of was springtime and all that the warmer weather has to offer.  In addition to appreciating the fresh air, increased sunlight, and spring flowers, the guidance office begins to plan for the 2011-2012 school year.  The guidance department, in conjunction with Dr. Maruszczak, will conduct assemblies beginning on Wednesday, March 2nd through Friday, March 4th to explain the course registration process to the students.

Over the course of the following two weeks students will meet with their teachers about course recommendations for the coming year.  Students will have until March 18th to obtain all the required

signatures and recommendations including their parent's signature on the course registration form. There will be a homeroom on Friday, March 18th where students will be required to hand in their completed registration forms.

The MHS Program of Studies will be available on the MHS Website starting March 2nd with the full course descriptions.  Students will be provided with a summary handout of the procedures and course offerings.

We strongly encourage you to discuss the course selections with your child for the coming year.  If you have any questions about graduation requirements and where your child currently stands, please contact his/her school counselor.  If you have questions about course content or recommended level, please contact your child's teacher.

Warm regards,

Tina Karidoyanes
