Update from the MHS Guidance Department
guidanceThe guidance department worked feverishly between December 17th and 22nd to prepare first term grades and January 1st application packets for the Class of 2011.  Over the course of those four days over 900 1st trimester grades were printed and packaged to be sent to the appropriate colleges and over 400 college application packets were mailed as well.

We want to take this time to remind everyone that most college admissions offices close for the week during the holidays, therefore there will be a delay in the updating of the colleges systems to reflect the most recent information submitted.  In general it may take anywhere from 1-4 weeks for colleges to match up the hard copy material with the electronic applications.  Should students receive notification from colleges that application material or 1st term grades are missing, please contact the college and let them know that the material was mailed out between 12/21 and 12/22 and ask where they are in terms of opening mail and inputting it into their system.  You may request that they do a "physical check" of the file to see if information is in the applicants folder even though the system has not been updated.  Resubmitting material often further jams up
mailrooms, so please contact the schools prior to asking the guidance office to resubmit information.

If necessary, we will gladly resubmit anything that the admissions office is missing. If the school is missing SAT or ACT scores, Mansfield High School cannot submit those on behalf of your son/daughter; you must contact College Board directly to find out why the school does not have the scores.  The customer service number for College Board is (866) 756-7346. Hours of operation are from 8:00 am - 9:00 pm Eastern Time.

Happy New Year from the MHS Guidance Office!
MHS HOBY Leadership Representatives Selected
cassandra howard
Cassandra Howard
Each year Mansfield High School has the opportunity to select two members of the sophomore class to represent our school at the Massachusetts Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar (HOBY).  HOBY is a
non-profit organization that was founded by actor Hugh O'Brian after spending time with Dr. Albert Schweitzer.  Founded in 1958, HOBY's mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service and innovation.  The organization provides leadership education to sophomores across the United States and throughout the world.  Students are taught how to think, not what to think through a variety of teaching modes.  There is also a community service element to the program where students are encouraged to give back to local
communities and understand the importance of civic involvement.  Each year over 9,000 students participate worldwide.

Rashmi Koul

There is an extensive application process where the entire student body was invited to complete an application to be considered.  The criteria for selection include academic achievement, community service, and leadership potential. A panel of judges blindly read the applications and then selected two representatives.  Close to 20 applications were submitted by members of the class of 2013. This year's representatives are Cassandra Howard and Rashmi Koul.  During Memorial Day weekend the students will attend the three-day leadership seminar at Bentley University.  For more information, visit www.hoby.org or www.mahoby.org.  Congratulations to both of these fine students!
