Justin Deckert,'10 Selected as DAR Good Citizen Rep
justin deckertThe MHS faculty and staff recently selected senior Justin Deckert to be Mansfield High School's representative in the annual DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Good Citizens Program and Scholarship Program.

The program is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools.

The student selected as the school's DAR Good Citizen must have the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism to an outstanding degree. The students are asked to write a short biographical sketch, as well as an essay, which is written in the presence of a faculty member within a two-hour time limit. Awards are given at the chapter, district, state, and national levels, and the national winner will be invited to Washington, D.C. to attend the DAR Continental Congress.

Justin is an honors and AP level student who is a member of the National Honor Society.  He is presently president of the MHS Student Council, serves as a MHS representative to the Massachusetts State Student Advisory Council, and is the student representative to the Mansfield School Committee.

Congratulations and good luck, Justin!

Volunteer to Help Mansfield's Elderly w/Fall Cleanup
leaf raking project

Once again the Mansfield High School community will assist the town's elderly thru the annual Leaf Raking Project.  We anticipate helping at least 30 Mansfield households through MHS students conducting fall cleanups. This year's Project will be on Veteran's Day, November 11, starting at 9:30 am. Give something back to your community while spending a nice, brisk November day playing in the leaves with friends!  We also could use adults to help with chaperoning and supervision!

To sign up: Any student may to the main office and put his/her name on the sign-up sheet.  A few guidelines:
  • We would like to have a minimum of 10 people per group at each site
  • If you do not have a full group, just add your name to another group
  • We also would like a team captain from each group!
  • Please sign-up by 10/29/10
  • Permission slips are due by 11/4/10
  • Be sure to bring a rake or leaf blower if you have one... and
    gloves ;-)

A form to volunteer or act as a chaperone/supervisor may be downloaded by clicking here.  For more information, please contact Project Coordinator Donna Harrington at (508) 339-8731 or via email at [email protected]
