Dear MHS Parents,

Good morning and welcome to a new school and work week!  I would like to once again remind you that the annual MHS Curriculum Night is this Thursday, September 30 starting at 6:15 pm in the auditorium.  This evening really is a terrific opportunity to meet your child's teachers and establish positive communication.  For parents of freshmen there is an optional presentation by the guidance department starting at 5:45 pm.  The guidance department will also be doing an optional presentation on the college application process for parents of seniors also commencing at 5:45 pm.  Both will have very useful information.

Second, if your child is a freshman or junior, you will be receiving their 8th or 10th grade MCAS report in the mail tomorrow.  These very comprehensive reports detail your child's progress in the areas of English language arts, mathematics, and science and technology.  This year there is a new piece of data in the reports, the Student Growth Percentile (SGP), a 0-100 value that essentially tells how much your student has grown relative to his peers.  For a more detailed explanation on SGPs, click on this link to a prior posting on my blog.

Have a great week!

Cordially,
