Dear MHS Parents,

On behalf of the faculty and staff of Mansfield High School, I would like to welcome you to a new school year!  I also extend warm greetings to families that are new to our school community. May this new school year be the most successful one ever for your son/daughter!  A few housekeeping notes for you to be cognizant of:

School begins on Wednesday, September 8 at 7:25 am.  Per our usual first day routine, all students will report to their homeroom to receive their schedules.  Homeroom lists will be posted in the front lobby and at the main office.

All students should return their Emergency/Dismissal Form, signed and updated, to the main office by Friday, September 10.  This form is crucial for us to have on hand should a medical emergency occur or if your child needs to be dismissed from school.

All students who wish to drive to school must appropriately register their cars with the main office.  Registration for senior drivers will begin on Wednesday, September 8 at all four lunches.  More information regarding registration and fees may be found on the MHS website.

I am delighted to announce that MHS has a new guidance director, Miss Tina Karidoyanes.  Miss K has served as an oustanding guidance counselor for the past six years, and I am very confident that she will provide vision and leadership for a department that is integral to all students' college and career readiness. Guidance News and Notes appear below in this e-mail.

As always, I am available if you have any questions or concerns about anything about your child's education.  Please feel free to call me at (508) 261-7540 or contact me via e-mail

Fron the MHS Guidance Director...
Tina KaridoyanesThe guidance office is bustling with activity in preparation for the 2010-11 school year. For the past few weeks members of the guidance staff worked diligently to finalize students' schedules, register new students, and prepare for the first day of school.  We are excited for the return of the students and working with your sons and daughters.

Every fall we hit the ground running with our seniors, and this year will be no different.  Senior seminars wills take place during the next few weeks to help students with the college admissions process as they work on their lists of colleges, obtain letters of recommendations, and complete their application packages.  Please note that the regular registration deadline for the October SATs is this Friday, September 10th; the late registration deadline is September 24th which incurs an additional fee of $24.

As the new school year begins, students are filled with anticipation, excitement, and at times, trepidation.  Sometimes it is hard to say goodbye to the long days of summer and swing into the school year.  Please know that we are here to support your children and to be of assistance with any questions or concerns that may arise.
A Note on Student Schedules
mhs logoThis year, more so than in previous years, making changes to students' schedules will be challenging, due to both closed courses and the limited space in the remaining courses.  In some cases this year the alternate courses that students selected were not offered and the counselors sought other opportunities for your children within the constraints of the schedule.  For the first five school days (through September 16th) the only course changes that will made through the guidance office are errors in placement (for example a student should be in English 12 College Prep but instead the schedule shows English 12 Honors or English 11 College Prep).  Beyond those changes, very few schedule changes will be permitted.

Policies and procedures regarding Withdrawal from Class may be found on pp.35-36 of the MHS Student Handbook.
Welcome Back!!
