From the Principal's Desk...
Good morning, and welcome to the home stretch of the school year!
Three things to share with you this morning: First, just a quick reminder that Parent-Teacher Conferences for the third trimester are this Thursday, April 29 from 12:00 noon to 2:30 pm and in the evening from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. This will be a half day for all students as they will be dismissed at 10:30 am. If you would like an appointment sheet for your son/daughter to sign you up for conferences with specific teachers, please click here.
Second, guidance counselors and I will be meeting with all freshmen, sophomores, and juniors early this week to review the course selection and scheduling process for the 2010-11 school year. The same school schedule will be in place next year; however, due to the present uncertainty around staffing, particularly in the elective areas, I cannot guarantee that all students will receive all of their course selections. We will do our very best to accommodate as many choices as possible.
Third, the last day of classes for seniors is Tuesday, May 25. Final exams for seniors will run on May 26-28. We had to make an adjustment to our original schedule due to the snow day and to ensure that we were abiding by the state requirement of a minimum of 171 instructional days.
Have a great week!
Cordially,
Dr. Joseph Maruszczak

Pirates of Penzance Coming to MHS Soon!
Mansfield
High School will present Gilbert and Sullivan's famous comedic operetta The Pirates of Penzance on May 7 & 8th
@ 7:30pm and May 9th (Mother's Day) @ 2pm in the MHS Barbara
Trombley Auditorium. Tickets will be
available at the door $10 for students/ senior citizens and $13 for adults. This
wacky operetta was originally performed in 1879 in England. The show was updated and performed in Central
Park in 1980 and starred Linda Ronstadt, Rex Smith, and Kevin Kline. The show was such a success that it went
straight to Broadway.
The
story of the show involves Frederick (played by Johnny Fullerton), who was
mistakenly apprenticed to the Pirate King (Tony Cutillo) until his 21st
birthday by his nursemaid Ruth (Katie Maleiko). Ruth thought Frederick's father said "apprentice him to a pirate" when
he actually said "apprentice him to a pilot". In any case, Frederick meets the beautiful Mabel (Lindsey White), the
daughter of Major-General Stanley (Napoleon Soares), and they fall madly in
love with each other. Frederick wants
out of his apprenticeship, but the Pirate King informs Frederick that since he
was born on February 29th and his birthday only falls every leap
year (once every four years), he is actually only five years old. Frederick is forced to stay a pirate for
another sixty three years and Mabel graciously decides to wait for him. Complications arise and high spirited antics
ensue when the police are called in to battle the pirates.
With lots
of dancing, singing, and sword fighting, this promises to be a fun show for the
entire family! A special open dress
rehearsal for senior citizens will take place on Thursday, May 6th
at 3pm. This performance is free, and
all senior citizens are welcome to attend. For more information, go to the MHS drama club page.

It's 70 Degrees... Do You Know What Your Child Is Wearing?
With the warmer weather that spring is bringing us, parents and students are reminded of the dress code that is detailed in the MHS Student Handbook. Specifically, students should not be wearing clothing that is distracting to the point that it interferes with the ability of themselves or other students to take advantage of the educational process. Students should wear clothing that appropriately covers their shoulders and torsos, and pectoral areas. "Short shorts" and skirts with revealing hemlines are not acceptable. Nor are tops that have "spaghetti straps."
Thank you in advance for helping us to ensure a conducive learning environment for all MHS students.
