MHS Art History Students Return from Italy!
art students in italy
AP Art History teacher Scott Brigante and art teacher Diane Beauvais took 14 MHS students on a walk through history on the Island of Sicily during the February break.  They toured examples of Greek,Roman, Spanish, Islamic, and Norman cultures that have all influenced Sicilian history.  Daily adventures included the Greek and Roman ruins in Syracuse, the center of ceramic art production in Caltagirone, an ancient Roman villa with beautiful mosaics in Piazza Amarina, Monreale Cathedral and the ancient palace of Palermo, historic sites in Catania, the temples of Agrigento, and the stunning ampitheater of Taormina.  The weather was spring and summer-like and the students got to experience a culture that is significantly different than our own.  Our students were terrific ambassadors for MHS, receiving compliments from each of our hosts.  The "Studenti Italiani" were: Kat Andberg, Micaela Allen, Kelly Brolin, Kelley Coughlin, John Davis, Faye Harwell, Brienn McParland, Caitie Mulligan, Jonah Primiano, Julia Ready, Joanna Rothschild, Greg Szczesuil, Molly Sherer, and Katy Wirth. The families of these students were extraordinarily supportive.  They look forward to sharing a photographic travelogue with the MHS community soon.

MHS Mock Trial Team Concludes a Successful Season

For the third year in a row, the MHS Mock Trial Team finished undefeated in regular season matches.  Victories over Bishop Connelly, Oliver Ames, and Joseph Case High Schools were evidence of the extensive work and preparation the team has engaged in over the past few months.  More than half of the team was made up of first year members, including five who played prominent roles in competitions.  In its match against Joseph Case, the team received a perfect score of 110 points, a first in school history.  In the tiebreaker round they lost to Bishop Feehan by one point.  Coach Claire Ingelfinger noted that their performance against Feehan was "the best I had seen this year."  Many of the team members received perfect scores on their individual performances.  Thanks to the dedication  of the students and the hard work of Ms. Ingelfinger and Attorney Michael Ready, the team continues to demonstrate that it is a force to be reckoned with in this highly competitive academic competition.
